Reception 2022.

Nothing yet Confused I thought you could see after midnight? Still isn't showing on the online portal and no email.

DC's application was submitted a day late, would this have an impact?

Thank you

When we were waiting to find out a couple of years i ago I didn’t get a message on the portal or an email until gone 9pm. All my friends heard earlier and it was a t Lena’s wait. Hope you get the school you want.

Pomponiers · 19/04/2022 06:29

That should read ‘a tense wait’!

byetotnenay · 19/04/2022 06:30

@Pomponiers thanks so much! I was sitting here wondering why no email or portal change. Even waited up past midnight Grin

Depends where you live but usually after 5pm on offer day. Very annoying as admissions have known for ages where kids are going so you'd think they could let parents know first thing on offer day!

RicStar · 19/04/2022 06:31

Its varies by local authority. In all London boroughs it is always post 5pm, but in other places through out the day.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 19/04/2022 06:31

Also re: late submission - in the borough where I work they usually process applications submitted after 15 Jan but before 15 March at the same time as the others.

Herald44 · 19/04/2022 06:32

If you submitted a day late you won't find out today, I don't think. I think you have to wait until the next round of offers after the First round have accepted or declined. Post in primary education and someone more knowledgeable will help you!

Oh I didn't know this! Thank you

Local authority isn't London.

It's the arse over backwards though. Wouldn't surprise me if they haven't even allocated anyone a space yet

I’ve woken up to the email this morning

AchillesPoirot · 19/04/2022 06:38

But you submitted late? So you possibly won’t hear at the same time as those who submitted on time?

byetotnenay · 19/04/2022 06:58

@AchillesPoirot hmm just spoken to primary school teacher. She said she's pretty sure they're all placed at the same time. Late submission just get what's left after the others have gone through round about March time

Why are you insulting the LEA team when you didn't manage to do one child's application on time? As pp have said it varies hugely across different authorities, including whether or not your 'arse over backwards' error will affect it.

byetotnenay · 19/04/2022 07:09

@ChiselandBits because they're useless. They have been a horror since we moved here for reasons similar to this, one of which being they removed my child from a SEND school and refused to fund it. I had to send them to tribunal! And won but he lost the place in the meantime

Anyway, they are well know for being crap

ChiselandBits · 19/04/2022 07:14

I'm sorry to hear that and understand why you're frustrated with them, but the current situation isn't related to that. The offers will come out today at some point but by missing the deadline you've really put yourself on the backfoot.

I missed the deadline because it was their fault!

OP posts:

How is it their fault that you missed the deadline?

byetotnenay · 19/04/2022 08:18

@AchillesPoirot I was advised by their team not to apply for a mainstream as he will be going to special school. I was told he would have a space at a special school and I didn't have to worry as the process is different for that. That was the admissions team

One day later, a different department say actually that isn't correct. You have to apply anyway!

OP posts:
AchillesPoirot · 19/04/2022 08:21

But if it’s a reception application how can they have already removed your child from a SEND school?

byetotnenay · 19/04/2022 08:22

@AchillesPoirot His send school starts at age 3. Lots of Them do

Some are even age 3 to 19

OP posts:
toomuchlaundry · 19/04/2022 08:25

Do they have an EHCP? Does it name a school?

byetotnenay · 19/04/2022 08:29

@toomuchlaundry yes but they're arsing about with that and trying to say there's no space. Anyway, another fight on my hands as usual

Point is he should've got a space at mainstream regardless

Admissions with EHCPs are not via the normal admissions process. If DC has an EHCP it should have been amended by 15th Feb. The LA cannot rely on the school being 3-19 and not properly specifying section I in order not to amended by the deadline.

If you don’t have an amended finalised EHCP complain to the Director of Children’s Services and threaten Judicial Review as they are in breach of the statutory timescales and are frustrating your right of appeal. It is important you don’t delay this because if you need to appeal to SENDIST you need to be submitting ASAP in order to have a chance of this being settled in time for a September start.

Unless the school you want is wholly independent the LA can only refuse to name your preference if they can prove:

  • The setting is unsuitable for the age, ability, aptitude or special educational needs (“SEN”) of the child or young person; or
  • The attendance of the child or young person would be incompatible with the provision of efficient education for others; or
  • The attendance of the child or young person would be incompatible with the efficient use of resources.

Being full is not defined in law, and on its own being ‘full’ is not enough of a reason to refuse to name your preference. The LA has to prove the school is so full admitting DS is incompatible. The bar is high. The LA can, and must, name the school regardless of the school’s objections unless they can prove one of the above.
