Can't find the thread the other day as was desperately seeking advice.

I'm 18 weeks pregnant. So constipated i just can't go. I've had to resort to manual Evacuation. I'm beyond mortified. I cannot believe it has come to this. BlushBlush

Please help me stop this happening again. What can I do???

My vagina is also killing now (I have mild prolapse From previous birth) so worried I've done serious damage. ConfusedConfusedSadSad

Lactulose

User48751490 · 18/04/2022 21:38

I find going on all fours helps and moving backwards and forwards.

MolliciousIntent · 18/04/2022 21:38

...seek actual medical help? Don't take medical advice from randoms on the internet.

Also lactulose will help too!

NetflixAndSauvignonBlanc · 18/04/2022 21:39

Eat All-Bran cereal for breakfast, every day without fail. Works like a charm for me (I'm 22 weeks now) :)

Pixiedust1234 · 18/04/2022 21:39

Go see your GP.

WhatNowwwww · 18/04/2022 21:43

As your pregnant I’d definitely see your GP asap. In my first pregnancy they wouldn’t prescribe me anything and I ended up relying on glycerin suppositories which work but it was bloody awful. Second pregnancy only 3 years later they were happy for me to take Movicol/Laxido so I didn’t need to resort to the glycerin suppositories.
I would recommend using them when you need to instead of having to do manual evacuation, but hopefully the GP will prescribe something that works for you.
In the meantime I would drink loads of water and eat loads of fruit, prunes ideally. Also use a toddler type step stool or something a similar height to put your feet on when you’re on the toilet.

beyondmortifiednow · 18/04/2022 21:51

Will contact GP in morning. And go and get some glycerin suppositories. Obviously at 9pm on bank holiday Monday I have very limited options.

I eat weetabix in the morning I thought this would be enough fibre but I will look at switching.

Do you have to have a prescription for movicol or can you get it OTC?

Califig syrup was a godsend after birth. Also, if you get orange flavour laxido I find it’s more palatable in orange juice than water, and has less ‘dramatic’ results if sipped throughout the day.
You do need some glycerin suppositories by the sounds of things to soften what’s already there so you don’t do any more damage straining

SingingWaffleDoggy · 18/04/2022 22:02

And yes, you can get Laxido OTC

Motherknowstseb · 18/04/2022 22:07

Lots of prune juice definitely helps. I had the same in pregnancy, and was worried about taking laxatives. Hope your feeling better soon

NetflixAndSauvignonBlanc · 18/04/2022 22:07

I just googled it because I was curious...Wheetabix has 3.8g of fibre per serving, All-Bran has 11g per serving, which might be why it's the only thing food wise that I've tried which works*.

*I haven't tried prunes, I've heard they work too

ScrumptiousBears · 18/04/2022 22:08

I found drinking lots of water helped and walking got things going.

Irridescantshimmmer · 18/04/2022 22:10

Any bran based cereal I have branflakes at the start and end of the day and it makes a big difference, honest I was the same and no longer thank goodness.

beyondmortifiednow · 18/04/2022 22:13

@NetflixAndSauvignonBlanc that's some difference. Bran flakes in the morning then!

OP posts:
BlueBlue22 · 18/04/2022 22:18

Craptulose (lactulose).

NetflixAndSauvignonBlanc · 18/04/2022 22:18
@NetflixAndSauvignonBlanc that's some difference. Bran flakes in the morning then!
Bran Flakes are 5.1g of fibre per serving, so better than the Wheetabix but still not as good as All-Bran. Apparently I'm a cereal geek now Hmm

Herejustforthisone · 18/04/2022 22:48

Movicol is very effective once it’s built up. The medicine, that is.

Cstring · 18/04/2022 23:11

Once you’ve cleared the blockage, make sure you have Lots of non soluble and soluble fibre, so definitely all bran, wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta / rice, oats, apples and lots of water. Keep things moving!

shreddednips · 18/04/2022 23:29

Hope you feel better soon OP. I took fibogel when I was pregnant (has a rather sinister viscosity but works a treat) and my mother told me to eat grape nuts, which are joyless but I think they helped. Also plenty of water.

Sarah13xx · 18/04/2022 23:58

2 or 3 weetabix morning and night! Orange juice too

Ozgirl75 · 19/04/2022 01:51

The only time in my life I’ve been constipated was when I was pregnant and (tmi) it was because my poos were just frickin huge. No idea why. I remember trying to crap out this giganto log on holiday in a beachside toilet and just thinking “omg I am just going to have to live here forever”.
Anyway, I found that if I had the following for breakfast it kept me a bit more able to go - natural yogurt with stewed rhubarb or prunes, linseeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds, raspberries, plus a glass of orange juice.
I had to hugely increase the amount of fruit and veg I ate and also drink so much more water. Like salad for lunch, half a plate of veg with whatever I was having for dinner.
Also movicol if things got bad.

MrOllivander · 19/04/2022 02:22

Not fibre stuff if you're already bunged up
More fluids. Tinned pears if you like them, drink the juice they're in too. Prunes, orange juice, more water!
Lactulose I think is safe but double check

beyondmortifiednow · 19/04/2022 12:27

Still no movement much today. I'm working so it's hard to be stuck in the bathroom for a while.

Do I do glycerine suppositories tonight and then movicol moving forward?
