Car accident

Hi all,

Wondering if someone can help me.

I had an accident 2 months ago. Reported it and didn’t hear anything back. Called them and they said third party haven’t made a claim yet and they have been given 6 months to make a claim. (I didn’t make claim for repairs on my car)

If they don’t make a claim would that still effect my no claims bonus?

Would I still need to declare it for future insurance?

Do they just close file after 6 months?

Thank you

Difficult to say. DP had something similar, 4-5 years ago, but very minor, just a knocking of wing mirrors. We didn’t claim, and our insurers told us that there hadn’t been a claim within six months, so they treated it as an enquiry and closed the case.

Now, I thought that was that, and I never mentioned it when arranging car insurance after that. No problems until last year, when the insurer I was going through said there was an undisclosed incident. I explained the situation and the insurance went through okay, and his NCD was unaffected, but I was surprised that it was picked up.

This probably won’t be much help, sorry, but I’d say if I’m doubt, speak with your insurer and seek to clarify your position.

Yes, you’d still need to declare it as an accident you’ve had for any future insurance quotes. Some insurers will then go on to ask you what the cost of the claim was and you can say £0. If you were at fault, the accident is still likely to increase your premium at the next renewal, irrespective of whether the third party makes a claim for their damages or not.

Oh sorry and regarding NCB, whether it’s affected or not will depend on the T&Cs of your current insurer. Theoretically if neither you or the third party has actually caused your insurer to pay out, then NCB should be unaffected.

I take it it's down as notification only right now, if TP doesn't claim then no it shouldn't affect your NCB and premium as your not claiming anything.

It won't affect your no claims if there's no claim
