Fuchsia help needed, have they got too much or too little water?

I can never work this out.. I want them to be fabulous this year. These pots I bought looked like they'd been a bit scorched in the garden centre, so I gave them a small quick dribble under the tap when I got home. Today they look a bit more droopy. (I pinched out the tips but don't think this is the problem). Do they have too much moisture or not enough? I took one out of the pot to see the soil and to my mind it was very light & slightly moist. But the leaves are limp Confused So do they need watering?

In my mind, not enough watering means brown & crispy

I'd probably put them in a bigger pot? Might be lack of nutrients rather than water. How do the roots look?

I'm about to plant them outside. The roots look good. I'm just worried because right now they're either too dry or too damp & I don't understand which?

It's a touch early to plant them out, no matter what up with them!

Which part of the garden centre were they in? Indoors or outdoors? I'm wondering if they haven't been hardened off properly?

They were under glass in full sun

I must admit, I wouldn't plant them out now. The nights are still chilly.
If roots are growing out of the pot I'd probably plant them into a larger pot. Put a bit of feed in the compost too.
