Toothbrushes

Just occurred to me that toothbrushes must be pretty bad for the environment, 100% plastic, can't be easily recycled and my family go through loads of them in a year. Electric ones are bad too, especially if they contain batteries and people don't take the batteries out before throwing away. Are there any more environmentally friendly solutions, like any where you keep the handle and change the head?

Google “bamboo toothbrushes”

We have rechargeable electric toothbrushes, and I change my head around 3 times per year.

We use either the chargeable electric ones so you just replace the small plastic head or if you prefer a manual one a bamboo wood one. Both easily available in supermarkets in Australia.

Either the electric ones with refillable heads - no batteries, but plastic, admittedly - or the bamboo ones. We use the electric ones at home and the bamboo ones when travelling or away from here me.

I thought about a rechargeable, but wasn't sure about the battery as it can't be removed or recycled. Might try bamboo, I had a look and a few supermarkets and chemists stock them. Apparently Colgate has some toothbrush recycling scheme but not sure how it works
