Why do I feel fear/danger, especially of heights, in my legs?!

I am not good with heights, especially on man made things like tall buildings or bridges. I am also not good with my children being on the edges of things...and even when it's absolutely safe, I still experience really physical symptoms! Just been on a city break and whenever dds were looking over the edges of things, or going up and down escalators, I felt absolute panic, heart thumping etc, but 1st thing is always a weird sore wobbly pain up the back of my calves! What is that?!

@RichardsGear I came across "ass tingles" when I was googling adrenaline etc!

I get 'anxious fanny' when I see blood or someone is hurt. Our bodies are fascinating (and strange) things!

Yeah a wound gives me anxious fanny, or someone holding their breath on tv.

Wow, thought it was just me.

I wasn't afraid of heights till I had kids. After that whenever they were near edges my stomach would flip flop and my legs would go funny.. it still happens even though they are now 18 and over.

Before kids I loved flying (even had lessons) and now I get scared in high buildings or flying. I can't even stand mezzanine floors. It's just so bizarre.

So interesting! I am definitely much worse since having kids, which I presume is another weird primal thing.

Yes definitely! I was totally put together and a bit of a force to be reckoned with (even if I do say so myself) when mine were younger!

Then my eldest started high school and was travelling on public transport alone and out with friends etc and I developed a totally debilitating panic disorder.

Being a parent can be so hard on your mental health.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that @TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo I hope you are getting some support.
I see risk so much more often now and my body doesn't help me rationalise it by going all weirdy on me!

I'm not good with blood or injuries and someone showing me an injury or just describing one gives me shooting pains in my legs!

100problems · 18/04/2022 15:47

I get it too and put it down to adrenaline/lactic acid.

If I have to stop suddenly in the car I get it in my wrists.

I get weird shooting pains in the soles of my feet, yet feel immobilised.

I think this is where the phrase'rooted to the spot' originates.

These days I don't go up anywhere high

Greatoutdoors · 18/04/2022 16:22

Soles of my feet for me, like a creepy crawling feeling
