Any pharmacists who can share a view on what to do about Covid vaccine for almost 12 year old???

DS will be 12 in a couple of weeks. I would be inclined to wait until he is 12 to get him vaccinated but he is small for his age (28kgs) so I am wondering whether the 12-15 year dose will overload him and if I'm better getting the 5-11 year dose.

Are there any pharmacists around who could advise on what is best. My pharmacist wasn't much help beyond saying I could do either.

Not being rude.

But you cant in any way verify anyones medical qualifications on here.

And would you really trust any medical professional that tells you not to it, when the actual professionals have scrutinised all the data and have decided it is in the best interests of your child to have it?

Pharmacist here.

I don't know about the specifics of your enquiry but in general if weight makes a difference when it comes to the dose of a drug an individual can receive then there will be recognised dose bands for different weights.

The fact that there is not and it is dosed by age implies it makes no difference.

Not a pharmacist but I'd go with the 12 year old dose.

But yes I do agree with the poster above me, I could be anyone and you shouldn't be taking medical advice from strangers on the Internet.

I got my 11 yo jabbed last week then realised they are giving a dose 1/3 of the adult dose. I would probably have waited if I’d realised.

I'm not being rude either, but perhaps best to read the question before answering

I didn't ask whether DS should have the vaccine. I asked whether he should have it now or in 3 weeks time. I spoke to my actual pharmacist and he said I could do either so whichever way I go would be fine but I'm interested in the views of other pharmacists.
