What on earth has brought this on, and how do i fix it???

Woke up this morning totally fine, noticed a slight twinge when i was pulling my leggings on, but nothing major, just figured i had slept funny.

Was fine, sitting watching tv and had my breakfast, went upstairs to use the toilet and noticed my lower back a bit sore and stiff, by the time i had finished using the toilet and come back downstairs and went to sit down again i was in agony. Couldnt sit, dp had to help me stand back up again, which was agony to do.

Standing up was ok so was walking around the room trying to stretch it out. Went to make a hot water bottle, holding the empty kettle caused another twinge and then standing was also agony.

Im now lying flat on yhe sofa with a hot water bottle on my lower back, but im worried that soon this is going to be unbearably sore as well, and i have no idea how im going to get up from this position.

Dp is worried that he needs to call the hospital, i dont know whether its that serious or if it'll go away on its own, and from a practical point of view i have no idea how i would even get to a hospital atm as i cant move without excruciating pain. I was crying with pain when i was standing up.

What can give me some relief from this????

@ChatterMonkey - I know your doctor said muscular. So this advice may be wide of mark for you, but just thought I'd post in case it turns out not to be muscular.

I had v similar symptoms to you that came on really fast and were totally debilitating brought on by driving 4hour per day for work (too much sitting) and carrying 18 month old on right hip too much...

It was inflamed discs. Treatment was ibuprofen taken for anti inflammatory properties (not pain relief only) every two hours for a week. Always eat before taking it. Also a full on back support (like an elasticated corset) and for inflamed discs it was total physical rest - no exercise - which is the exact opposite advice than you have for muscular back pain where "motion is lotion".

I went to a great private osteopath (he was attached to a tennis club, but gyms might be worth looking at too to find one) for several sessions and it was him he gave this advice. He said I was very lucky it recovered on this regime and I didn't need steroid injections in my back.

But I only used ibuprofen.

@ChatterMonkey - I'm sorry, realised I said ibuprofen every 2 hours above... it was every 4 hours (so normal dosage).

I'm sure you would not just randomly follow odd advice on MNet, but just wanted to clarify! Confused

How are you today op?

ChatterMonkey · 18/04/2022 21:00

Im a lot better today thankfuly. Im able to move semi-normally again, i just have to prepare for every movement, its still very sore if my leg jars slightly or misjudge a step when walking etc. Can turn over in bed but again, very carefuly and there is still a lot of pain when im moving.

Still feeling a bit sicky from the naproxen, havent had any today so hopefult thatll be a bit better tomorrow. Been having ibuprofen and thats been helping so going to stick with that.

Had to cancel a meeting i had scheduled tomorrow as its an hour drive away, but other than that I can work from home, which i should be fine to do, so.in a way it was a sort of blessing that it happened over the bank holiday weekend where i had the extra day to recover.

Missed out on our gardening plans for the weekend though! Instead DP had to do it all while i supervised 😂

glad you're better. Try to work out what you can do to prevent it happening again -- most of us find better posture helps a lot.

Glad you're ok. The NHS do Pilates videos online specifically for people with back pain. I've found it really helpful. The stretches have eased my back which does love to go into spasm.
