Freddie’s Flowers alternatives

Hi. I’ve been a Freddie’s Flowers’ customer for a few years now. I’m pretty happy with the service and the quality of the flowers.

I receive emails showing me what’s in the upcoming box which usually prompts me to cancel. I’m really not a fan of clashing mixed colours, especially as they nearly always have something yellow like golden rod (something I view as a nasty weed in my garden!)

I’m thinking of changing to another subscription and wonder if anyone has recommendations? I’m thinking Bloom & Wild or Arena Flowers. My perfect one would deliver white flowers only, but I don’t think they exist 🥴

Bloom and wild are lovely. I had a years subscription and got a duff box once in all that time. Spoke to customer service and they sent me a brand new one free of charge. No haggling or anything.

A bit different but you could look at Scilly Flowers. They only grow two things - narcissi (white I think!!) in winter and pinks in summer, both scented. They will do a bespoke subscription however often you want and for whatever £. If you like simple bouquets of all the same flower it might suit well. I’ve never tried a subscription but have bought flowers from them and they are lovely.

Please leave flowers in the ground where they belong! Flower miles (where flowers are flown in) are an insane drain on the environment, incredibly selfish.

Get some art to look at and stop propping up an industry that does so much damage!

Maybe you'd have more luck with a local florist, they may not offer the service already but they might if you asked?

Trulyweird1 · 26/05/2022 12:40

Actually, we did this locally for my mum when she was ill .
Set a budget, preferences, dislikes etc and every 2 weeks the local florist delivered a bouquet ready for a vase so myDad did not have to think about it.
Most local florists would be delighted with that sort of business I think.

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/05/2022 12:44

I find flowers in general very wasteful and hate receiving them but if I did want something like this surely a local florist can put together exactly what you want for collection or delivery on a monthly (or whatever) basis and it would arrive looking much better.

Alternatively order whichever bouquet you like the look of on a website, bloom & wild etc. It would only be a few minutes of your time to order for yourself vs a subscription and you would be getting what you want. Paying a subscription for convenience isn't particularly convenient if you are not getting something you actually like, and it is not cheap.

I use Arena Flowers and they are always really beautiful and generous. Great ethical and eco credentials too.

I've tried M&S, Bloom & Wild and Freddies, and Freddies are my favourite.

M&S were terrible. I gave up after 1 bouquet was replaced because it died after 2 days, then 3 bouquets that looked like supermarket bunches (8 alliums, 15 mismatched gladioli, and a bunch of small headed chrysanthemums). TBF, they did refund all of them when I complained.

Bloom & Wild were okay but I had some issues with freshness. Also, their letterbox bouquets have much shorter stems and tend to be "slim" varieties so they fit in a letterbox so they look less impressive for the same amount of stems compared to the Freddies bouquets IYSWIM. The boxes are about a quarter of the volume of the Freddies boxes. I did love it when Ocado stocked Bloom & Wild though. They were much fresher.

I also like that the Freddies flowers usually have lots of long lasting blooms so I rearrange them into smaller vases. My record is some spider chrysanthemums that kept going for over a month.

I do agree that some of the colour schemes are a bit marmite. I just skip and get flowers elsewhere, although they often look good for a fortnight anyway. My current bunch is 7 days old and looks as if it has just been picked. I'm not sure other subscriptions have the skip option. I'm a bit Hmm about the £4 price hike though.

I get Arena flowers every other week. Christmas present to myself. I get the 'pet safe' ones. They are lovely and are tonal rather than clashing. One time the flowers were just not up to standard and they sent me another bunch no problem.
A local florist would do it but would they deliver? That might send prices too high near me.

balalake · 26/05/2022 14:55

Is there a local florist you could use? I use the one local to my mum for Mother's Day.

KittyMcKitty · 26/05/2022 20:10

I get Freddie’s every week. It’s my extravagance! I have to say I’ve never had a bunch I didn’t like (even when I wasn’t sure in advance) and the odd occasion I’ve had problems the customer service is spot on!

I’ve had flowers from other places and have found them underwhelming if I’m honest. The £4 increase was a shock but I’ve decided to go with it.

LittleBearPad · 26/05/2022 20:23

I skip the Freddie’s I don’t like. They tend to last two weeks anyway. Bloom & Wild we’re ok but went a bit ropey

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/05/2022 01:10

I recently ordered from Bloompost
Recipient was delighted and they looked exactly like the photo on their website

grownup2 · 27/05/2022 02:20

I'm a huge Arena fan. This is a recent spectacular still lovely after a week. And on the odd occasion the flowers were not perfect they replaced without quibble. Very ethical policies too.
