Thames Clipper from Greenwich to Charing Cross on a summer evening.

Durham
Whitby harbour

An obvious one is steamers on various of the lakes in the Lake District are good, some combine well with walks.

The best ones are wildlife watching. Two that stand out:
Sea Life Surveys from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull was fantastic.

Years ago we had a good rib ride with Marine Discovery in Cornwall - looks like they have a catamaran now, I really want to do that if we're down that way again.

In rather different vein, punting along the Backs in Cambridge (not doing it myself, to be clear, DH and I lounged while DD and her BF did the work) was very pleasant.

I don't think I've ever been on any boat that I've not enjoyed.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 16/04/2022 20:11

Thanks for the ideas
Will be down in Cornwall in the summer hopefully so will Google
That one and the others will be sore to look into as I’d travel somewhere nice for a nice day out and boat ride
Same as Errol I’ve never been on one I haven’t enjoyed

The Anderton boat lift is worth a trip if you want something a bit different! They have quite a nice coffee shop as well as the boat

Fairhaven Lake (I get sea sick very easily) Grin

The Falkirk Wheel - amazing piece of engineering and lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

Puffin island from beaumaris in Wales
Farne islands in Northumberland

Silkierabbit · 17/04/2022 01:53

We did Skomer today and that was magical, puffins, seals and gannets, sunny day and lots of rainbows as sun and the splashing waves combined.

Just don’t try driving onto the stony beach like my DH did, if you also happen to think that’s a good idea a tractor is what you need to pull your car out before it sinks. Easter Hmm

New Quay in W Wales.

I've been out several times and been surrounded by dolphins each time, close enough to touch sometimes. It's not guaranteed of course but I think they have good success rates.

Tenby to Caldey Island

There are quite a lot of other boat rides from Mull which were all enjoyable, especially if you take binoculars. The best one alongside the Sealife surveys mentioned upthread IMO (at the right time of year ... we went in a may half term) was a trip to Staffa (Fingal's cave, the counterpart to giants causeway with hexagonal rock pillars) and Lungha. This is the most amazing place for seeing puffins. They don't seem to mind people at all - in fact, humans scare off the predatory black-backed gulls which are a threat to them. I'd got my waterproof trousers in my pack so I was able to lie on the grass just a few feet from their burrows watching them.

Isle of Skye boat trip to Loch Coruisk. Breathtakingly beautiful.

Would second this. We were really close up to the dolphins, it was amazing. You can also see seals and lots of birds.

I’m going on a seal-watching trip in Blakeney (Norfolk) next week, it's meant to be excellent.

airrrrAIRRRRiELLLL · 17/04/2022 11:40

Most recent was a Thames trip around the SS Richard Montgomery wreck. Last chance everyone to see the masts before they are removed in June.

Also the Red Sands forts In the Thames are amazing!
