If you are a Hairdresser- how often are you given a tip ?

As a question on a different thread but about tipping in restaurants .
Do you receive a tip by every client or how often on average ?

OP posts:
Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 19:44

I always tip my hairdresser, usually £5

Houseplantmad · 15/04/2022 19:44

Me too - £5 tip.

Foxcubs · 15/04/2022 19:45

I have stopped tipping, maybe once every three cuts but it was getting unaffordable.

£5 to my colourist/stylist and £2 to my shampoo girl.

knowinglesseveryday · 15/04/2022 22:29

Never. They charge a ton of money already, and my hairdresser is the salon owner. I tip in restaurants and cafes, though.

JoyLurking9to5 · 15/04/2022 22:32

I never tip. I have no reason to believe she earns LESS than I do. my customers never ever tip me because it's not 'done' so it's ridiculous.

I would feel resentful tipping her.

JoyLurking9to5 · 15/04/2022 22:32

I'm not a hairdresser, when I say my customers, I mean, the people I do work for.

CrowAndArrow · 15/04/2022 22:33

Nope, no tip except for Christmas.

£130 an hour is better than I'm paid

Crunched · 15/04/2022 22:34

I always tip my hairdresser unless they are the salon owner.

SpeedofaSloth · 15/04/2022 22:35

Never.

SpeedofaSloth · 15/04/2022 22:37

Sorry, misread OP Blush I meant to say that I never tip my hairdresser. It has never occurred to me TBH.

DFOD · 15/04/2022 22:42

Nope.

Have my roots done every 6 weeks at £110 and cut every 12 weeks at £85 so annually it’s £££ - each takes about 30 mins of her time. Been doing this for 15 years and likely will keep going indefinitely so as a regular customer having spent over £20,000 to date - no tip needed

DirectionToPerfection · 15/04/2022 22:44

I think every poster here so far has failed to read the OP. Grin

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 15/04/2022 22:48

I read it, then disregarded it 😂

crackingreward · 15/04/2022 22:53

So annoying for OP no doubt.

Ginandslippers · 15/04/2022 22:58

About 50% of clients tip and £3-£5 average on a £35-£100 bill. Odd £10 or £20 but that's maybe one client a fortnight.

EatsQuorn · 16/04/2022 08:09

Yes the post was aimed at hairdressers and not clients . I just thought it would be more interesting to hear directly. 50 posts could say they tip always , but a hairdresser could tell a different story.

The comprehension skills on here are appalling!

EssexLioness · 16/04/2022 08:23

I clicked on this thread thinking it would be interesting to read the experience of hairdressers on this. Unfortunately it’s just full of people who haven’t read the OP

Dogsaresomucheasier · 16/04/2022 08:35

My hairdresser is a girl I taught when she was younger. I’m very proud of her and I do tip her, but don’t routinely.

Hairbear2 · 16/04/2022 08:45

I would say about 10% tip me a few £ then I get one or two that will tip me £10.
I’m self employed, so many clients think I get all the money that they pay, not taking in to account my expenses/tax/NI etc.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/04/2022 09:04

@Crunched

I always tip my hairdresser unless they are the salon owner.
This is what I do and it’s conventional
Lavenderlid · 16/04/2022 09:12

I'd love to know if salon (small business, not large London firm!) receive tips and if you do are they viewed as offensive.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2022 09:15

@CrowAndArrow

Wow, how do you know how much she earns an hour? That’s an amazing wage.
Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 16/04/2022 09:17

Nope, used to when she first started doing my hair, but it's been the best part of 15 years now.
I take goodies instead, so we'll sit and eat doughnuts/chocolates drink tea and have a good gossip while my colour is on.
