What to use on sore, red face

I've always had very sensitive skin buy it's been under control for years. The last couple of days my face and neck have become very irritated. Red and sore. I can't bear anything touching my face or neck, not even hair, and I've taken my necklace off
I haven't changed anything
I've been using a cold compres. I have hydrocortisone for eczema buy I don't want to use a lot of that on my face as it thins the skin
Dies anyone have recommendations of what I can use to dampen down the irritation?

Aloe Vera gel?

Palavah · 15/04/2022 10:47

When i saw a detmatologist for eczema on my face i was prescribed hydrocortisone. The consultant said it's normal for it to be underprescribed and underused. Short term it will be fine on your face.
But is it eczema?
Have you had covid recently?

Are you using only aqueous cream or dermol 500 liquid for washing hands /face/body.

Have you changed shampoo recently? Got nail varnish on?

Daffodils ir hyacinths or other spring flowers in the house?

Try taking an antihistaimine tablet?

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 15/04/2022 10:52

No covid. Only use aqueous everywhere for washing. No change in hair products. I only use nail varnish on my toes
I saw a dermatologist years ago and he said the same. I might try to dampen it down with hydrocortisone. I'll take am antihistamine too. I am reluctant because they all make me drowsy even the 'non-drowsy' ones. I'm not driving today so it's a good day to take them

I second the hydro cortisone, maybe alternate with sudocreme.

Also I'd take an antihistamine and use cold compresses, of water is irritating, a silk or cotton cloth cooled in the fridge can also be soothing.

Sswhinesthebest · 15/04/2022 10:55

Following. Particular problem with red and sore around the eyes so worried about creams getting into the eyes.

MrsDThomas · 15/04/2022 10:56

Hydrocortisone will not thin the skin.its not a steriod cream.

Have you tried aveeno?

CurbsideProphet · 15/04/2022 10:57

Dermol 500 lotion was recommended to me by a Dermatologist years ago and I still use it every day to wash my face. I buy it from behind the pharmacy counter for £10 ish and 1 bottle lasts ages.

Hope it improves soon. I have very delicate and sensitive skin and hate it when it flares up.

I've had the same op. Skin has been so inflamed....like uts burning with weepy sort of acne. No idea why Sad

What I've done is only wash it once a day with a splash of water, bit of cerave cream or spf in the day and before bed snail mucin. The corsx one seems to be calming it down. Each morning I've woken up and its drying up the weepy bits and less burny.

AnyCakeButBattenburg · 15/04/2022 11:10

MrsDThomas Hydrocortisone IS a steroid cream. Some people get withdrawal flare-ups due to using it.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 15/04/2022 11:11

I have some aveeno and did think about using that. The oatmeal is soothing isn't it. I use it on my body buy have tried it on my face

Try anti histamines

Cetirizune Hydrochloride is the best on for skin issues

JengaTower · 15/04/2022 11:14

Cetirizine

HRTQueen · 15/04/2022 11:20

I have very dry skin and occasionally sore patches on my body

I often use Aveeno on my face they do a range for baby skin that might be better for you (I use the one for very dry skin)

I also use Lucas Paw Paw ointment (the others paw paw ointments haven’t been as good) on patches of very dry irritated akin

La Roche Posay Cicabaume B5 Baume is my absolute go to for irritated skin. Available pretty much everywhere - Boots/Superdrug/Amazon.

I had eczema on my eyelids from December - last week, so painful and unsightly. I tried pretty much everything including hydrocortisone to no avail.

Went travelling last week and wanted something small that I could take in hand luggage to keep it moisturised. Picked up a tiny pot of blue Nivea, it disappeared overnight, I'm amazed!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/04/2022 15:48

I have red patches occasionally My skin is eczema prone and very sensitive
I use a tiny smear of Sudocrem topped with CeraVe cream
Have used a dab of Vaseline on eyelids/ eyebrows too

Indoorcatmum · 15/04/2022 17:16

This product here is amazing! Super nourishing and doesn't make me break out. I've had a RED face for years and since using this combined with Paula's Choice Niacinamide I've had two people spontaneously notice and compliment me on how my face wasn't red anymore.
