I need a "soft" recipe for someone struggling with teeth

I'm cooking for someone who's got very few functioning teeth (gap awaiting dentures) and need to make a birthday meal. What can I make that's NOT chilli or shepherds pie? (Which by the way auto corrected to shepherds pjs which I may call it from now on Grin).
I am ok for dessert (Mary berry lemon pots - delicious) and birthday cake with buttercream is soft but what about a nice main that I can still make nice sides for of veg for those blessed with better gnashes?
Ideas please folks. You never failed me before ! Thanks in advance !

Ooh now meat loaf might work. She doesn't do smoked fish and I can't bear the idea of a plain white fish and salmon pie unless anyone has a way to make it tasty without? I tend to rely on the smoked fish and mustardy sauce for oomph

Cauliflower cheese?

LIZS · 14/04/2022 20:34

Mary Berry salmon and spinach bake ?

Iheartmysmart · 14/04/2022 20:36

I still use the recipe from my ancient Annabelle Karmel baby weaning book which makes the white sauce for the fish pie out of vegetable stock rather than milk. It’s got much more flavour that way. Add some strong grated cheese to the mash topping as well. Now I’m hungry!

Cheese soufflé?

peridito · 14/04/2022 20:39

Some sort of quiche ?

Or how about a pithivier ? They look fab and although a bit time consuming to put together aren't tricky .
The puff pastry ( I use bought) is flaky not crunchy and the filling is soft .

I recommend halving the amount of potatoes .

Serve with watercress salad and other salady items .

Any kind of fish dish with mashed potato! Alternatively crushed new potatoes, dauphinoise (sp) potatoes. And make sure that at least one of the vegetable dishes is slightly more cooked than al dente.

I have problems with my teeth and this is my standard diet.

Eastereggglutton · 14/04/2022 20:48

Tartiflette?

shinynewapple22 · 14/04/2022 20:48

It is likely that they may struggle with salad items if they have gaps in their teeth.

Food like pastry (eg recipe above) is easier to eat if served with mashed potato. (Low carb fans might be horrified but it makes it easier to eat!)

Mushroom stroganoff with rice

Salmon tagliatelle

Prawn curry

All can be bulked out with salads, broccoli, curried veg etc

Mrsmadevans · 14/04/2022 20:54

Corned beef hash

chesirecat99 · 14/04/2022 20:54

Any kind of fish will flake on the plate with a fork so you could serve fish eg salmon with hollandaise sauce, asparagus for those with gnashers, and a layered vegetable puree, eg potato, parsnip and carrot, or polenta

Thai crab cakes?
Any kind of fish cake or rissoles?
Crustless quiche
Chopped salads eg Israeli chopped salad, tabbouleh, micro chopped Greek salad
Couscous
Pulled pork or any kind of pulled meat
Polenta
Beans and lentils are usually soft enough to eat without chewing
Some kind of terrine?
Paella or Portuguese duck rice modified with finely chopped pieces

Jamie Oliver’s Fantastic fish pie

This has always gone down well - no smoked fish required.

Changednamesorry · 14/04/2022 21:19

Slow cooked beef stew
