Can't poo!

Sorry! I promise I'm not the poo troll. Just a desperate woman. I had DS four week ago today and seem to have lost the urge to poo! Now it's been 5 days since I've last been and I am in agony. I managed to get a bit out last night but today I can hardly walk because of it. As I've had 3 ginormous poos in 4 weeks it's all a bit of a mess down there and I am bleeding so much just trying to go. I've tried using a stool every time and my fingers in my vagina. This time it hurts so much I jump up in pain every time. I can't take laxatives as I'm breastfeeding but have taken stool softeners. Please help me. I'm so scared I'll have to go to hospital!

If you get to the point of it coming part way out again before you can get hold of suppositories, grab the bit sticking out with a bit of loo roll and break it off. With luck most of the rest is softer, and will move through more easily.

Yes I do get dehydrated sometimes, you think I'd learn, but...and even if you can just snap off a bit, it can help I find.

When I had my babies, back in the 80s it was almost standard to be given glycerine suppositories after the birth. We all dreaded our first poo. I can remember being told to hold them in for as long as possible before going to the toilet, which was not easy. But they worked and after that things were much easier. I hope you get some soon and get some relief.

Instead of sitting on the loo , squat as best you can and hold a nappy underneath you. Squat position is better for releasing poo. Catch it in the nappy and empty into the loo

Eat a spoonful of ground flaxseed every day and drink at least 2 litres of water. Glycerin suppositories are good to start you off

Thank you everyone. The suppositories did the trick. I would never have tried them without this thread so thank you so much. Honestly it was like a tennis ball amd hurt so much. I will sleep so well tonight knowing it's over.

This happened to me after giving birth to my first son. It was horrendous and so painful. I don't know why they never tell you this can happen, or why my health visitor never said anything. Glycerin suppository worked in the end. Awful experience though. Ever since I've always told any pregnant friends about it.

RainbowMum11 · 14/04/2022 23:41

Andrews liver salts have been the only thing that have ever helped me in this situation, that and a stool.

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 14/04/2022 23:44

The way it was explained to me was that if you are not pooing regularly, what is in your body gets more water extracted from it and becomes much harder and more difficult and painful to pass. Adding more volume behind it with fibre products just adds to the problem. What you need is something to lubricate its way out - stool softeners, mineral oil, glycerin suppositories. Speak to your GP though.

That's great OP, hope you had a much needed night's rest Smile

ofwarren · 15/04/2022 12:12

Yay, I'm so glad they worked!

felineweird · 15/04/2022 13:42

Fybogel! You can even take it when pregnant so will be fine for breastfeeding. I had terrible constipation with my last pregnancy and it helped sooooo much

upinaballoon · 15/04/2022 14:16

This has been a rivetting read and I'm glad the suppository worked. I used to get a bit c when away on holiday and it's much easier to attack the problem from the botty end than from the mouth end.

Ortis fruit cubes are good
They contain figs and are gently effective.
If you're really uncomfortable I suggest gylicerine suppositories which will work within 20 minutes
Drink lots too

Oh I've just seen your last post!
I'm glad they worked
