Easter Food

How traditional is everyone eg fish on Good Friday, roast lamb on Easter Sunday etc? We are actually having salmon tomorrow but when I did my meal plan for the week, I hadn’t remembered it was Good Friday. We’re having Italian roast chicken on Sunday & probably going out to fight through the hoards for a pub lunch on Monday. Hit Cross Buns & chocolate are a given!

I am German so for us it is fish on Good Friday or a regional thing called Struwen germangirlinamerica.com/omas-munsterlander-struwen-recipe-for-good-friday/

Saying that, we are out for the day tomorrow and will go to Wagamama.

Sunday would normally be a lamb roast but we just had it two weeks ago with friends so we have a chicken.

Hot Cross Buns for afternoon and lots of small Easter chocolate for DD, she has to search the garden for them. DH and I will have a small basket to share. I don't like the big Easter eggs.

Also pretty traditional.

We're having a posher-than-usual fish pie on Friday and lamb kleftiko on Sunday, followed by a version of bread & butter pudding with rhubarb and hot cross buns.

TurtleForBreakfast · 14/04/2022 16:35

Fish tomorrow (goujons and fish pie). Saturday it is the second night of Passover and I am going to a family member's house. Sunday we are doing roast lamb.

(We are a religiously mixed household- clearly).

RhinestoneCowgirl · 14/04/2022 16:41

Making hot cross buns tomorrow, then DH will do a curry in the evening (but that's a Friday regular thing)

We're going to to stay with in-laws from Saturday to Monday. I am very much hoping for a lovely roast dinner, but don't know what plans are. I'm a control freak who loves food, so if I'm hosting i have menu planned weeks in advance and love to talk about it, but I understand not everyone works like this Grin

No tradition at all here!
Butterflied chicken in lemon and chilli's tomorrow with tabbouleh. Saturday out for dinner, Sunday salad and quiche. Monday out for dinner somewhere .

GrumpyPanda · 14/04/2022 16:55

Nothing special tomorrow. Managed to bag a leg of goat kid from our poultry and venison specialty supplier so looking forward to a nice roast for Easter.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 15/04/2022 09:53

whatwouldnanado here’s the recipe for Italian roast chicken :-
8 - 12 chicken thighs ( can use breasts or legs & add 5 to 10 mins to the cooking time)
3 tbsps olive oil
1 bunch fresh rosemary or 3 tbsps dried
Salt & freshly ground pepper to taste
3 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
1kg small new potatoes

Put half the oil in one roasting tin & half in another
Place chicken in one dish & add half the rosemary
Mix with a spoon to coat chicken in oil & rosemary
Add a little salt & pepper & the garlic
Prepare potatoes & cut into 1 cm slices then place in the other roasting dish
Add the rest of the rosemary & mix so potatoes are covered in oil & rosemary
Add salt
Cook at 200C (180C fan) for 30 to 35 mins.
You can roast baby sweet corn or small onions on with the chicken
Enjoy!

No traditional food, no planned food, just normal stuff/whatever we fancy or have in.

Harrriet · 15/04/2022 10:13

Hot cross buns
Salmon tonight
BBQ Saturday
Roast turkey Sunday
Possibly chocolate trifle if I can be bothered
Easter eggs on Sunday

Babdoc · 15/04/2022 10:23

DD and partner not arriving until Saturday evening, after their mountain climb, so a big Moroccan chicken tagine with dates, honey, almonds, harissa, preserved lemons and couscous.
Then on Easter Sunday - smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, toasted walnut bread, plus fresh berries in Greek yogurt before church, a big buffet lunch, and a roast whole leg of lamb marinaded in red wine and fresh rosemary from the garden. Followed by Easter cakes.
There will also be a walk round the local loch in a vain attempt to burn some of those calories while the lamb is in the oven!

FreezyFreezy · 15/04/2022 10:25

Picnic today, takeaway tomorrow, no idea yet for Sunday. Possibly a chilli.

AdaColeman · 15/04/2022 10:36

It's Good Friday, and I've had a hot cross bun for breakfast, lunch will be cod in butter sauce served with spinach, so all traditional so far.
I've not got any other meals decided yet.

ArtVandalay · 15/04/2022 10:40

We don’t do the fish thing. Not religious.

Dh is doing the whole roast lamb extravaganza on Sunday. I don’t like lamb though (especially as there’s usually about 50 of them cavorting in a nearby field), so I’ll just eat the veg.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 15/04/2022 11:01

Having a vegetarian friend round tonight so no fish for us this year. Also this is the first year ever I’ve not had a hot cross bun. DH hates them and I end up eating all of them (not in one sitting!). Sunday we’re having rack of lamb as there’s only two of us and I prefer it to a huge leg/shoulder of lamb.

DinosApple · 15/04/2022 13:18

Our traditional Good Friday food is very low key and no meat (Catholic).

Our traditional Easter Sunday lunch is a Shri Lankan chicken curry with noodles. My DM is from the south of India and that's what they always had, so we keep the tradition going.
