Does anyone else have to restrain themselves from doing something 'FUN' every day in the hols?

Poor DS (just turned 5) is knackered. Becomes exhausted towards end of term, emotional, needy...all normal I'm told by other parents, just typical first year(s) at school behaviour. I have to keep reminding myself that he needs a break not to be dragged out every day to do something exciting and fun. It's soooo not in my nature to chill at home though, I find it really difficult. My instinct is always to be out and on the go and doing something interesting. He is pretty terrible at relaxing too, to be honest! Not sure why I'm writing, just musing I suppose and wonder if anyone has any tips to help those of us who can't sit still to chill out and rest?

You can still be busy in your home OP but it just means if your DS looks tired you can both have a little rest, maybe reading time, for example.

I’ve mentioned this on here a few times over the years. When mine were tiny and the weather was awful we had two pots of sunny and rainy day activities the rainy day activities were really basic but it just took away the mental boredom factor.

Ah funny you should say that @Chidjireta he came to me this morning with a 'bucket list' he'd written which is now pinned on the fridge ready to be ticked off!

I work out of the home so DS is often in childcare in the holidays, so when I'm off work we do something fun every day. I'm not a chill person either, I find sitting at home boring!

Learning to entertain yourself and to do nothing at home are key skills. Having a box of ideas like PP said is a great idea especially if they are things he can do independently.

I’m like you OP but my 8yo has got more vocal about staying home. I’m currently in the garden listening to Radio 4 whilst he games. Our trip out today will be to the local library.
