New build WiFi

I'm moving to a new build soon. Which is Social housing.

I just called sky to do a home move. They said they can't do broadband at the new address. He said something about sky being blocked and the address is exclusive to other providers.

What does this mean ? I wanted to get broadband in ASAP.

It means exactly what he says. Most probably that another company like BY has got exclusive rights or whatever for the first year or so. It happens. The new build developers will be able to tell you which company is set up and can be used

Go onto the BT and Virgin websites and see if they provide service to your new postcode

We had to use BT for a year in our new build. Not sure why. We changed to sky after that.

It means the location, new build site is serviced by other providers, the builders should have given you a list of providers for the site you then need to choose one from their list, many new builds have fibre to the house, (not the old phone line cables) my son purchased a new build and this had fibre, he was given a list of providers for the service, none of them were the big names, he chose a sensible package with a small company and they set him up he had no problem with the service or provider in all the time he used it

I will check. I don't know if it will give the answer though. As its just a few new builds added in to the end if the street of old houses. So rest if the street with same postcode probably get more of a choice

Oh I see. So I'm probably going to have to wait until I do the actual sign up /move in day till I can properly sort it 😔

If you go onto the OFNL website it should tell you who provides for your new address you've just got to pop your postcode in. We are about to switch to seethelight, we are with pure broadband at the moment and it's not the best however I hear a lot of good things about seethelight from other people with new builds in the area.

CharlieLo · 13/04/2022 16:01

Our new build we can only use FibreNest and can't use other providers.

FionnulaTheCooler · 13/04/2022 16:02

Avoid Sky broadband anyway, we used to have it and it was utterly shite and dropped out for no reason constantly. Changed to BT and its been fine.

I have been with them 12 years and found them ok.
