Shameless plea - people.were so helpful on my last thread. Me and ds (aged 10) for 2 nights.

Arrive Sunday at 12pm. Staying in a Premier Inn hub (check in 3pm whixh is a bit shit)

Booked into Camera Obscura at 12.15 on Monday

Maybe open top bus tour

Can you recommend places to eat (will I need to book?)

We could add another night somewhere accessible by train if anywhere springs to mind?

We were meantvto with doing 3 nights with pals.elsewhere in Scotland but they have covid and ds is really gutted so lookingvto make it really fun

For food Cosmos World Buffet is amazing! So much choice and your son will love the puddings, choclate fountain, popcorn machine etc and all the ice cream you can eat 😁 I like it as it takes the choice and waiting out of the equation which is great for the kids and they get to try foods they might not have before

I think I was on your other thread - what I'd do is keep your hotel for a third night just so you're not trauchling your stuff about and jump on the train to Glasgow for the Science Centre/Transport Museum/Kelvingrove.

Edinburgh for a 10 yo - bus tour, make sure you leave time to walk up or down the Royal Mile on the way to Camera Obscura cos it's fab, the museum on Castle Street is always a good shout. If he likes Harry Potter then there are walking tours, bus tours, all sorts of stuff. The zoo is doable by bus if it's a nice day, or take the train to South Queensferry and do a Forth Bridges Tour. Also the Science Festival is due to start soon (Friday maybe?) so take a look at what's on there. There's a park in Princes St, or walk up to the Meadows from the museum.

Food: Civerinos is a good pizza place, Bubba Q is also fun, El Cartel for Mexican, Ting Thai if DS likes a bit of spice.

Royal Yact Britannia at Leith is a bus ride away. You get to see everything from the engine room to the state rooms.

Falkirk Wheel at Falkirk (obviously!).
Strathclyde Park in Motherwell.

The castle is right next to the Camera Obscura - great views over Edinburgh, loads of different cannons, the Honours of Scotland (Crown Jewels) Stone of Destiny - tons of stuff for kids. If you do it a different day, try to be there for the 1 o’clock gun. It’s got so much more to see than Stirling Castle.

Greyfriars Bobby is just round the corner from the Museum and right next to Greyfriars Kirkyard, with its Harry Potter connections. As well as the Covenanters Prison. The ghost tours are brilliant.

Don’t miss Wojcek the Soldier Bear in Princes Street Gardens, as well as the Scott Monument.

Dynamic Earth is at the bottom of the Royal Mile - it’s a firm favourite with kids (of all ages). It’s right beside the Scottish Parliament.

Ooh, well spotted!!!!!!!

Watch out loads of places are closed.

We had a day out in Edinburgh last week and found lots of places like the Museum of Childhood and the Scott Monument closed.

I hadn't checked in advance and had assumed everything was open again.

We still had a good time at the national museum and lunch in Bella Italia in the Royal Mile. .

We will go back but I will carefully Google everything in advance.

We went to Edinburgh last summer and randomly my then 10 year old loved The Royal Yacht Britannia!! We also did the zoo and thought it was awful.

National museum on chambers street is a always favourite with my DCs. Then go the end of the street and have a look at Greyfriar’s Bobby and the churchyard, it’s really fascinating.

Whoever said the Museum on the Mound, that’s a great shout, they have weirdly interesting things about money and great views of the Scott Monument out the windows.
