Bathroom renovation price

Just wondering how much people have paid for a new bathroom? I know it will vary by area a bit. Our cheapest quote so far has been 4500 without all the actual stuff, he gets 25% discount at a showroom and we've added that up to 3643 with the discount (going for the cheapest stuff too). That's without tiles and floor. Overall its looking like it will be about 10 grand, which we're a bit terrified about! What are other peoples experiences? We have absolutely 0 DIY skills and no handy family members either so a bit limited in what we can do ourselves, also an 18 month old so no time or energy to project manage!

How big is your bathroom? Mine cost roughly 5K last year, everything inluded. New bath/toilet/sink, had a shower put in (over bath but with the pipes buried in the walls), spotlights in the ceiling, an extractor fan and walls and floor tiled. My bathroom is small though and the new bathroom suit just went in exactly the same place as the old one, so no need to move any pipes etc. I'm in Staffordshire.

Thanks for your response, it is quite a big bathroom but we're only having the shower bit and bath bit tiled, so you wouldn't think that a bigger bathroom would make that much difference? That's handy to know thought thank you

My bathroom is tiny, I want to take bath out and replace with an omnitub (shorter but deeper) and then get tiles done with resin grout so I can still have insane hair colours without wrecking my bathroom, and possibly new sink and towel rail. Loo is fairly new. My plumber told me to expect it to be around £6k and to leave it 18 months unless I was desperate!

That is a good price! Does that include everything?

My bathroom cost £10,000(VAT included) for a small bathroom. That includes absolutely everything from stripping out, clearing, floor wall tiles with the latest bath fittings. We are in the South east. I guess it will vary in areas of the country.

Mine is very very expensive (being done right now). We are using a local independent who work with high/ mid range stuff and literally they do the lot. Right back to the bare bones but not moved plumbing. Small room but a lot in it (separate bath and shower plus units, big mirrored cupboard etc). They said other than the tiles, the size didn't make too much of a difference to the price, it was the stuff that had to be fitted.

Before the quote I was told prices had gone up over 20% and to expect it to be 10 - 12k. Let's just say it was more shall we. It feels ridiculous and I know I could have sourced stuff myself/project managed it and I think I could have got it for under half the price but I'd paid a premium for good service and low stress.

I think 10 with vat isn't bad - you could do cheaper I expect though if you did more/hunted down bargains etc. so down to what you are prepared to pay for.

I'm having mine done now and it will probably end up around £9k after a few issues with the existing plumbing and soil pipe cropped up.

Its fairly small and the cost includes taking down a wall as I had a separate toilet/bathroom and completely tiling the room. I have had to wait 4 months for the builder to be free though.

It is expensive, but prices have gone up. You don't want the stress added by project managing yourself. Hopefully, they are good and will get it done quicker. They have liability insurance which covers all works, etc. As they are local, they have a reputation to keep.

lugeforlife · 15/06/2022 19:04

Yep they have been a delight to deal with so far tbh and have a great local reputation.

We aren't planning on redoing the room again (will downsize once kids leave home and buyers will want to upgrade then we imagine) and we can afford it so are looking at it as an investment.

Our quote was 6000.00 which doesn’t include tiles/sanitary ware/shower & screen/taps
does include all stripping out some mucking about with pipes/electrics & underfloor heating & plastering so will probably come in at around ten thousand or so we are London/Kent border.

My friend recently had her bathroom done (Manchester). It was £6k. That was their minimum price and for basic fittings, but their basic is a high standard finish. She has beautiful white marbled tiles from floor to ceiling. The price included removing the old bathroom and a built in cupboard, the new suite, shower screen, shower and tiles, as well as ceiling spotlights.
