Neighbours barking dogs

My neighbour has several dogs that bark all the time. If I step into our garden, the dogs just stand and bark until I go back inside. The neighbour does nothing to stop them. I'm dreading summer as it will be another year of avoiding sitting in our own garden because of the dogs. For several reasons I am unable to approach the neighbour about it. I'm loathed to go through a noise complaint with the council as the neighbour will know it's me. Does anyone have any ideas how I can make this situation better?

I don't think you can! If you can't approach the neighbour and can't go down the 'official' route, I can't see another way!

Perhaps one of those high pitched whistles for the garden to deter the dogs from coming out but I'm sure that's painful for the dogs and dangerous to wildlife....

Are the dogs well cared for?

Are they outside all the time ?

DarleneSnell · 12/04/2022 16:49

Are you the other side of my neighbour?! Similar situation here, yappy little poodle mix shits that bark whenever they're playing outside, and if we set foot in our garden to take bins out, or have a visitor at our door, they go berserk until everyone is back in. The neighbours seem quite normal and will quiet them if they're also out, but there's a dog flap and they ignore otherwise!

We're sometimes woken first thing at the weekend by the dogs yapping at nothing. It's unbelievably selfish and lazy from the owners. Why get a dog if you CBA to manage something as basic and important as barking?! Like you I'm just putting up with it rather than get into dispute territory. Hope the dogs are old! Dicks.

As PP says, get a training high pitched whistle.you can't hear it unless you are a dog. And the owners need to control their dogs, unless they live in the middle of nowhere. It's antisocial behaviour, not the dogs' fault, but you have right to peace too.
Poor dogs, and poor you.

Thank you for the replies.
I did have a look at those bark trainer things, but my concern was that they aren't nice for the dogs. It may have to be a short term plan for long term gain though.
The dogs are well cared for (sorry, i didn't mention in my op that the neighbour offers a dog sitting service) I assume this is why they don't give a shit about sorting the barking themselves.
Has anyone gone through the council for noise disturbance? Any good outcomes?

Do they need a licence to do that? Is it allowed to run a business from there?

TillyTopper · 12/04/2022 17:32

My friend has a neighbour who has 4 large barking dogs, they also breed from them. They were constantly barking/growling. She now has a camera with recorder for evidence and an ultrasonic anti-barking device.

I have wondered about this. Have googled address, name etc, but not sure how I would find out about it being a business.

@TillyTopper Does the anti barking thing work?

I'm interested in the anti barking things. I bought one online for £30 but it never seemed to work. If there are ones out there that work indoors through brickwork, I'd like to know which make as I have problems with my neightbour's dog.
