Just looking to see why some people have gone no contact with in-laws and has it worked?

I am wanting to go no contact with my in-laws due to various some many past issues.

My in laws were vile to me. 2 years no contact. Then suddenly they invited themselves round and were nice as pie to me 🤷🏼‍♀️ been a great rship ever since. Never thought it would ever change, but somehow it did

🙄 They wouldn't have got a second chance with me, DogsAndGin.

I am very (virtually non existent) low contact with mine. As a family they are totally enmeshed. Fine if that's what they want but not for me.

We have nothing in common and I dislike many of their values. There has not been a falling out, I just leave all contact such as phone calls, cards, emails, to DH. They occasionally have a meet up. I remember the MN phrase "It's an invitation not a summons" and don't go.
