I'm off at the moment and thought I would watch a few old episodes of Man about the House for the fashion! I think it ran 73 to 76 and I just about remember it. Anyway, as expected the fashion was glorious, but what I hadn't expected was it being such a social commentary for the times.......and how little things have changed.

A few things they talk about include
NHS on verge of collapse
Food shopping being too expensive (they are going to have to cut back)
Cost of rent (£45 for a 3 bed flat on wimbledon Common) and can't afford to live in London
Economy doing badly

Can anyone else suggest anything else I can watch?

George and Mildred

Will still have a LTB feel to it I'm sure!

My favourites were the Liver Birds and Porridge.

Yeah, the country's so shit we're literally back in the 70s.

What a joy.

Butterflies. I watched an episode a few days ago and I think it's aged very well.

The Good Life . Still hilariously funny after all these years

The highest grossing UK film of 1971 was a comedy centred on a series of 'hilarious' attempts to oust women from their workplace through a sustained campaign of bullying and harassment. ('On the Buses' - it beat 'Diamonds are Forever'). The TV series was also immensely popular.

It does have some very funny moments, mainly down to the quality of the acting, but its popularity tells you a lot about attitudes of the time.

If you watch 'Yes Minister' or 'Yes Prime Minister', there are so many lines that feel like they could be very current indeed, if you are looking for social commentary rather than fashion.
