Does anyone have an unusual pet? Meet "Pancake" (probably don't click if you don't like insects - she's a praying mantis)

Meet Pancake, dd2's praying mantis.

She's smaller than my thumbnail at the moment, & very very fast. She likes to scare the shit out of me by jumping onto my hand when I least expect it 🤣

I was just checking on her temp/humidity & wondered what unusual pets you lot have?

Loving the snail photos. Mine was called Victor after Victor Meldrew because he used to huff quite a bit. I had him for 8 years and I took him to work a couple of times.
@lucysmam, thank you!
As a child I was given a matchbox full of stick insect eggs and told to put it in the airing cupboard. Which I did. But not in another container so.....we were finding baby stick insects all over the house for weeks afterwards. That was as far as having anything remotely exotic went!
My DM brought home a box of stick insects from a friend at school when she was a child. She brought them in to show her mother, tripped and dropped the box. They were finding them in the living room curtains for weeks. She wasn't allowed them again Grin

I love the snails, very tempting. We looked afte Ra gecko called Maud whilst a friend was on holiday and we became very attached to her, but we've now got a lurcher who likes anything that moves so we darent risk it.

Baby Gary is tiny there; he looks the size of a 'normal' snail but with a weird, pointy shell!

I was just looking at the 'Slimeside' channel on YT and interested to learn that apparently it is illegal to keep a GALS in the USA. I wonder why?

We have a leopard gecko, called Echo

They are illegal as invasive species. They also carry parasites which can cause meningitis. They're also a problem for farmers as eat everything. In this country if I dumped my GLS they would die as it's so cold.

Loving the picture of echo

Antarcticant · 14/04/2022 18:04

Ah, so it's only safe to keep a GLS in a cooler climate because they couldn't survive and invade if they escaped - makes sense now, thank you!

That's my understanding
