Had the day booked for a while but after suffering from an horrendous abscess over the weekend it was up in the air but after seeing my angel dentist today hopefully I’ll be fine for tomorrow. We have the sea life and London eye booked form 1.30 onwards (merlin pass holders) but not sure what to do for the couple of
Hours before (arrive in London at 10.30). I was thinking of getting the Thames clipper to Greenwich, having a mooch then getting the cable Cars back over but then again we’re going on the eye so will have a high up view of London. And also not sure if I’ll be cutting it too fine with getting back for 1.30?

My other thought was the transport museum? Ive seen mixed reviews, is it worth the cost?

Any help would be great! Thanks

I think a 9 year old would find Greenwich pretty boring, it’s your average high street. The ship is empty and dull.
Transport Museum in Covent Garden is great for a few hours.

Elzbells · 11/04/2022 22:22

I haven't been yet but the London Bridge Experience is supposed to be excellent

TwoThreeFourDive · 11/04/2022 22:22

Transport museum is sold out 🙈. So ignore that part

My 9 year old likes the Tate (prefers Britain but likes Modern too), he's also fond of the Science Museum. The London Transport Museum is good, but mine has been a couple of times and has posible outgrown it now. You could have a mooch round Selfridges, the toy department is good, then pop for a milkshake or hot chocolate at the cafe in Fortnums?

chisanunian · 11/04/2022 22:24

Harry Potter shop at Kings Cross, and have your photo taken at Platform 9 3/4?

CatNamedEaster · 11/04/2022 22:24

Transport Museum is very expensive (or was when we went a few years ago) but the ticket lasted a year so we went another two timed over 12 months.

Science museum or Natural History museum? Could concentrate on one area rather than trying to rush round the whole thing?

TwoThreeFourDive · 11/04/2022 22:25

Science museum
Is also fully booked 😢. I booked the eye and sea life so long ago and never thought about booking anything else for the morning. What an idiot 😢

I’ll skip Greenwich then, I love Greenwich but yeah DS would probably be bored out of his tree!

The zoo? That's quite a full on day though! Do they like food? You could get something fun to eat from Camden market if you're zoo direction.

SummerInSun · 11/04/2022 22:26

Science Museum if you can book Wonderlabs. Or Natural History Museum. Postal Museum is apparently great but haven't been there yet. HMS Belfast if he's into military things or ships.

Or just go to Covent Garden and Leicester Square and wander around - Lego store is fun for a look if he's into Lego.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/04/2022 22:26

Bizarrely, our son really enjoyed walking to the top of the Monument when he was 9. Me? Maybe not so much Grin

TwoThreeFourDive · 11/04/2022 22:27

I like the sound of milkshakes though. We live a couple of hours away from London but come a few times a year, we always do the same ‘’m&m world, hamleys, changing of the guards’ which to be fair is always fun but we last came in December and did that (and watch them panto!) but I’ve obviously left it way too late with it being Easter as well!

SummerInSun · 11/04/2022 22:27

Churchill War Rooms if he's interested in World War II.

ntsure · 11/04/2022 22:30

I think the London bridge experience is too scary for a 9 year old, it’s like a horror maze, it scared the life out of me and I love that sort of thing!

elidelochanthefirst · 11/04/2022 22:31

Postal museum is a quiet one has an underground train.

Or the museum of London at St Paul's is usually quite quiet but it's a great museum

To be honest though I'd probably just wander and eat nice food, you've got a lot in the afternoon!

Auntpodder · 11/04/2022 22:31

Which station do you arrive at? If kings cross, Harry Potter stuff mentioned above is fun. This is near Waterloo (and the London eye) if they like gaming. electricgamebox.com/locations/southbank-london/
The imperial war museum is quite near and the southbank usually has stuff going on…

TwoThreeFourDive · 11/04/2022 22:31

All the museums are sold out. What an idiot I am 😢. I’m taking a picnic and obviously already have entry to the London eye and sea life so wanted something relatively low cost or free but literally didn’t think about having to pre book things in advance. I was thinking I could just turn up 🙈.

He’s not a fan of Harry Potter or any kind of military things. He loves wrestling, that’s his number one passion but don’t think there’s anything in London wresting related 🤣

My 8 year old LOVED hms Belfast,so much so that he’s making me take him again.
Postal museum is ok but small, the train ride is fun but the main museum is a bit small and not a lot to hold their interest and a 9 year old probably too old for the play area

Auntpodder · 11/04/2022 22:36

Meant to link this! southbanklondon.com/Easter-Holiday-Guide-2022

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/04/2022 22:37

My DS loved the imperial war museum at that age and you can walk quite easily from it to the London eye.Another hit at that age was the museum at the Bank of England which is small but has a gold bar to touch! From there walk past St Paiul's , the Tower of London and over tower bridge to go back along the south bank or you could go up the monument and down to the wobbly bridge and back along the south bank. I am quite a fan of the museum of London with DC but I'm not sure that you have enough time.

TwoThreeFourDive · 11/04/2022 22:37

Yeah I’m thinking now maybe I am trying to pack to much in? We’ve been up to the Viewing platform at the Tate. We arrive into Euston about 10.30 so have 3 hours until
We need to be at the aquarium.

I’m thinking now:
Arrive and head to fortnum and mason to have some milkshakes. Go to hamleys and let DS pick a (small!) toy with his spending money then have slow mooch to the south bank. Eat our sandwiches in the park (is there a park close by) or on the grass somewhere. Have a little wander around the south bank then go to the aquarium. After the aquarium head to the eye. This should be done around 4. Our train home is at 5.30 so then go and grab a quick tea, head back to Euston at home? How does that sound?

Thank you so much by the way, I have had an horrendous few weeks, truly the crappest of my life topped off by developing this abscess over the weekend. This little day trip is just what we need but with everything that’s happened I’ve left it so up in the air so all of yours answers are SO appreciated

Go on a bus trip round London taking in all the sights and saving yourself money by using London transport buses.

AreWeThereYetMummy · 11/04/2022 22:48

Is the Postal Museum sold out too? The train underground is great. My 9 year old really liked it

Wallabyone · 11/04/2022 22:48

Have a lovely time OP-you can head to Green Park, or Hyde Park to eat your sandwiches. You can jump in a black cab to get there for an extra London experience 😊
