What reminds you of Lockdown One?

DD loves Donald Duck. So in Lockdown one we watched The Three Caballeros most days on Disney Plus. Today she put it on and it took me right back to that feeling of boredom and stress! Same with spag bol. I had never eaten it before lockdown and then decided I liked it so we had it most weeks in lockdown. Now the taste takes me instantly back to that time.

How fresh the air was and how quiet the streets and skies were. Looking up and seeing no planes and looking out to see no cars or people. For us it was an amazingly positive time, although I always feel dreadful saying that.

I hated my job so much before lockdown one to the point I was starting to struggle mentally because of it, that had never happened to me before in my life. Then along came lockdown one and I feel so guilty every time I say it when people were going through the worst times ever but I can only think of the positives when I think of it. The weather was great, we sat out in the garden drinking cider and I read my book in the hammock. One day we took a picnic away a very long walk (when picnics were technically banned) and it was just such a novelty. I loved the feeling of people having nowhere better to be, it was such a simple time! (Again, feel such guilt saying that when that’s the opposite of so many people’s memory of it)

Blinding lights too! I thought it was just me that had that as a reminder. When they played it in an empty London on NYE 😣
Also homeschooling and my marriage coming apart. Shit awful times.

Waking up at 4am. During lockdown I had to start work at that time so I was able to supervise home schooling later. I still wake at that time now even though I don’t need to now. Now I go for a run instead!

Also when the roads are very quiet for whatever reason. That was one of the things I really liked about lockdown, along with quieter skies.

My weight. Every time I look in the mirror I see the extra lockdown pounds that I'm struggling to shift and I feel like I'll never be like I was before. Working from home and homeschooling meant I was on my backside for most of the day and we live in a small house with no room to do Joe Wicks or exercise sessions. That, combined with relying on freezer food because fresh was hard to come by has resulted in a figure i am ashamed of. Ive lost a bit now but I still feel like I'm dragging lockdown around with me.

There's a Health Centre near my home with a zebra crossing outside. During Lockdown 1 the council (or whoever, it's official anyway, not graffiti) painted on the road in front of the zebra ''Thank you NHS and Care Workers''. Every time I pass it I think of Lockdown.

On a somewhat more depressing note that came to me today I realise I actively avoid the downstairs toilet. There is a small gap between the wall and the ubend where the ceiling arches under the stairs and DD used to crawl behind there to cry when it came time to home school. I can’t reach behind and at times had to physically drag her out as she screamed, DS cried, DH was at work and I was internally combusting with a work phone ringing in the other room.

Ooft it’s been a long few years.

Lots of sunshine, eating really well, outside in the garden. Too many G&Ts.

Being worried we'd get reported for husband's kids coming round.

Husband's family not just being able to drop in whenever.

The puppy - got her just before lockdown.

Being able to cycle on empty roads.

first lockdown was a guilty delight.

Tee and Mo on CBeebies, toddler DS developed a liking for the songs so kept listening to them on a loop at one point.
Harry Potter, we watched the films back to back as something to do.
The wooden rainbows some people in my local area still have hanging outside of their homes.

QueenBarbOfTheHardRockTrolls · 12/04/2022 17:04

"Super cool" from the Lego movie 2.
Such an upbeat song juxtaposed against my concerns that we might all die soon. I can't listen to it now without a heavy feeling in my chest.

Also, Debra Searle's epic solo transatlantic row, because I'd told my dad about it a while ago and during lockdown when we spoke on the phone, I'd say "keep on 'rowing'!"
