Laryngitis/sore throat

Does anyone have any tried and tested remedies for a sore throat/losing my voice? Currently feels like I'm swallowing glass and feels red raw.
Water stings, hot drinks sting, lozenges and paracetamol are rubbish.

Please tell me your hints and tips to feel better Smile

Anyone? Im not usually a wimp but I'm trying my hardest not to swallow because it's so painful.
I tried gargling with hot salted water but it doesn't get to the sore bit enough to provide and relief.

Found some cocodamol at the back of a drawer from months ago and even they're not helping.

No but I had a horrible sore throat for a couple of days and now I'm losing my voice. Strepsils helped a bit and drinking a lot.

Gargle aspirin.

Can also try tyrozets, strefen rather than strepsils or difflam all will numb the throat.

singlepringlenotbychoice · 11/04/2022 07:51

@JellyBunny my voice is going it's so croaky keeps cutting out completely.

Thanks @DeathMetalMum I'll see what my pharmacy has from your recommendations.

If you haven't already try difflam rinse

singlepringlenotbychoice · 11/04/2022 08:13

How are you doing OP? My voice is no better but I also haven't bought anything to help it.

@singlepringlenotbychoice My son is a couple of weeks post Covid. He started with a sore throat a few days ago. He also has a really dry hacking cough and very low energy. I brought him to the GP the other day. He has some white spots on his throat and very swollen lymph glands. The GP said they are seeing a lot of this in post Covid patients. They are getting through Covid relatively easy and being hit with this a couple of weeks later. He was prescribed steroids and antibiotics and only now 4 days later I’m seeing a bit of improvement.

singlepringlenotbychoice · 11/04/2022 20:46

@Frasa that's interesting, I had 3 rough days of covid then felt fine other than tired. This is definitely way worse.

I was at the pharmacy today who said it's rife just now and worse in people who have had covid. And gave me a throat spray that's rubbish
My throat is red and sore to touch my neck but no white spots. I'll keep my eye on it though.

I hope your son continues to improve and is feeling much better soon.

Chloraseptic spray. It numbs your throat. Also I've cream good. Watch it is not Covid.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 11/04/2022 21:56

Poor you, I usually have hot water with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a spoonful of honey, have you tried that

WimpyKidYouNot · 11/04/2022 22:05

I used to be a frequent sufferer of tonsillitis which is like swallowing glass and always used Dequadin Lozenges. Found them to give good relief.

COVID went round the family here a few weeks ago. 50% of those who got it went on to get some sort of secondary bacterial infection (sinusitis, chest etc.) that required antibiotics from the GP.

upinaballoon · 11/04/2022 22:15

I had Covid end Feb/start of March. No awful symptoms except WICKED throat. Docs gave me a spray which made it worse. I went back to gargling with soluble aspirin. I'd never had such a bad throat. I had to hold my neck when I wanted to swallow something, to help it a bit. I hope yours improves soon.

singlepringlenotbychoice · 12/04/2022 00:31

@upinaballoon that's exactly it. I have been warming my hands on my coffee and holding the front of my throat when I'm swallowing it's awful. I sound like a frog croaking with a barking cough.

@WimpyKidYouNot that's interesting and goes along with a previous poster. Chest feels a bit rattly tonight but that might be because I'm trying to suppress coughing. I'll keep an eye on it. Hopefully it goes as soon as it came.

I had this post covid in the summer whilst I was in the US. It got vo bad that I needed to go to hospital as I could no longer swallow water. It took two courses of antibiotics and some very strong steroids to shift it.

singlepringlenotbychoice · 12/04/2022 00:50

@Einszwei that sounds awful I can understand though as it's so painful I have to brace myself to swallow, avoiding eating and drinking to limit swallowing which obviously isn't great. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse though.

Difflam throat and mouth spray, I'd highly recommend. I suffer with laryngitis and its been a life saver.
