If someone told you they were going to a charity duck race over the Easter weekend, what would you think that was?!

Rubber ducks on a river?

undermilkjug · 10/04/2022 20:09

Plastic bath ducks racing along a river?

guiltynetter · 10/04/2022 20:09

Throw all the ducks in a river and see which one makes it to the end first.

Nnique · 10/04/2022 20:09

Bath ducks down a river/brook/stream?

Or maybe real ducks? On a farm?

guiltynetter · 10/04/2022 20:10

Plastic ones of course, not real!

MamaWeasel · 10/04/2022 20:10

Numbered plastic ducks racing along a river

Nnique · 10/04/2022 20:10

Rubber duck! That’s what I was trying to say...although bath duck does work too.

xyzandabc · 10/04/2022 20:12

We have an annual duck race locally. A thousand (or might be a few thousand, I can't remember) or so rubber ducks are tipped over the edge of a bridge in to the small river. Each one is numbered and people pay £1 or £2 per duck. 1st, 2nd and 3rd duck to reach the finish line, the winners get a cash prize.

It's a fund raiser organised by the local round table.

Fizbosshoes · 10/04/2022 20:12

Yes numbered rubber ducks in a river

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 10/04/2022 20:13

The village near us used to have a charity duck race, it was great fun. Gambling over a load of rubber ducks bobbing down a brook with number marker penned on their bases. A pub was obviously the centre peice of the event.

OldTinHat · 10/04/2022 20:24

YESSSS! Thank you! That's exactly what it is. A charity fundraising effort, 1000 plastic ducks being released in a river, ducks are sponsored, volunteers wade along the river to hook out stuck ducks, there's a finish line and all plastic ducks are caught and brought back.

My friend said she didn't support 'racing ducks'. I messaged her to say they're plastic ducks but she's blocked me.

I was going to say plastic ducks yes

Your friend is a bit daft to not even let you explain yourself

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/04/2022 20:30

Definitely rubber ducks.

Although my local fete has ferret races with real ferrets.

OldTinHat · 10/04/2022 20:30

Very daft, yes!

Nnique · 10/04/2022 20:33

My only concern is do all the ducks get cleaned up? Otherwise that’s quite a lot of potential plastic litter...

SlapBet · 10/04/2022 20:33

Elderly relative down South said they had their waders on for the duck race a couple of years ago and I was imagining real ducks! Literally only now realised this must have been what they meant! Blush
Makes sense now I think about it!

Nnique · 10/04/2022 20:34

Ah you did say they’re all collected.🌻

xyzandabc · 10/04/2022 21:25

@Nnique

Ah you did say they’re all collected.🌻
Oh yes, ours get washed clean and put away for next year. Often washed by volunteers from the benefitting charities.
DuggeeHugPlease · 10/04/2022 21:30

Oh this has brought back lovely childhood memories of going to the duck race. Haven't heard of one in years.

Alconleigh · 10/04/2022 21:51

There's a Boxing Day duck race round here, it's fab.

I don't think someone who blocks you on social media for mentioning something they don't actually understand, but ask no clarification questions on to check what it is, is your friend. You've probably worked that out tbf Grin
