Where do kids keep their electric scooters while they're at school?

I see plenty of teenagers in school uniform on electric scooters and wondered how they stored them at school?

Presumably in some kind of locked facility? Or the school will probably have a 'leave at your own risk' policy. I didn't think they were legal anyway.

chisanunian · 10/04/2022 17:53

They shouldn't be riding them to school, it's illegal.

helpfulperson · 10/04/2022 17:54

We don't allow them on school premises as they are illegal. We certainly don't take any responsibility at all.

Private electric scooters are illegal to ride on public roads, they shouldn’t be at school at all

321zyx · 10/04/2022 17:57

They are illegal unless on private land or Govt controlled test scheme.

schroeder · 10/04/2022 17:59

I know they're illegal and I thought that might mean schools wouldn't be happy for them to be locked in the bike sheds.

I don't imagine there is anywhere to leave them. So you actually see them at school run times or have they gone home and for them or dropped them home before heading to school? I don't see any on the school run and I live on a bike path junction where people come from all directions to the local high school

BlueOverYellow · 10/04/2022 18:08

We don't allow them on site; they're illegal.

schroeder · 10/04/2022 18:13

I see them about 8.30 in the mornings, so assume they're off to school.

Plenty round here too op and going to the local college. Maybe a house near the school is cashing in and storing them in their garage

chisanunian · 10/04/2022 18:21

What, I wonder, is the point of having a law if people break it, knowing they won't be caught because the law isn't being enforced?

TheSpottedZebra · 10/04/2022 18:24

But are you in a test scheme area? I am. So,we're in the wierd position that we can hire one from the scheme and ride that, and leave it where we wish, but cannot own one, ride it on the roads legally and lock it away.

Teens do ride them to school round here, and they leave them just outside the school gates. Then hope they can find one with charge for the ride home!

They aren’t massively popular here but they are definitely gaining in numbers. I’ve maybe seen one 15 or so times locally. I’ve only ever seen one person on an electric scooter being ‘pulled over’ by police staff (PCSO’s), a local young teen who was riding on the pavement.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 10/04/2022 18:27

We aren’t in an area with the ‘Boris bike’ ones for public use.

We are in a test area but kids still shouldn't be riding them to school as you have to have a driving licence to hire one.

schroeder · 10/04/2022 18:38

There isn't a scheme here, they must be privately owned.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 10/04/2022 18:46

Yeah we are in a test area too and I have no idea how they are all gaining access as you are supposed to have a driving license to hire one, they are no way all old enough, plus supposed to wear helmet (HA as bloody off) and as you would expect A&E is full of these absolute wazzocks

TheSpottedZebra · 10/04/2022 19:14

Hmm, good point about the driving licence, although looking at 'ours', z provisional licence is OK so the teens could possibly all be 16? But am sure they aren't!
