Hi all
What space savings ideas do you have for your home? Always looking for ways to maximise space! Thanks

I love my 16 cube kallax in the utility. It has 8 boxes containing shoes and coats.

Plenty of spare cubes for candles, vases etc.

Overhead bedroom storage cupboards for storing bedding, towels and toys in rotation or large sets of things that only get played with occasionally.

Declutter!
Have a “one in, one out” policy for anything you buy.
Vacuum bags for bedding, towels, unseasonal clothes, etc - but only as many as you’re sure you’ll use.
Decide where you’re going to put your bits-and-bobs, and once that drawer/box/whatever is full, start getting rid.
Don’t buy storage furniture- it takes up space to store stuff you probably don’t need. You’d be (financially) better to buy the smaller package (with a higher cost-per-unit), to miss out on the BOGOF on batteries, etc than to spend money on something to store the bargains in.
Paperwork is bulky and a lot is unnecessary - MOT certificates from 5 years ago for a car you sold already?

Oh - and have a place for things to go. Shoes, coats, vase, whatever, ideally on the room they “belong” to - eg washing powder beside washing machine etc.

Declutter first, then ask yourself the question do I need it and where am I going to put it before buying anything else.

Consider how do you use the space you currently have, a rarely used dinning room can become a bedroom, an office or a playroom. My dinning room, which opens to the kitchen is now a snug that doubles as a dining room when we have visits with the help of a height adjustable table.

Since we have the snug we were using the living room very rarely and just to watch TV, so now the living room is set up as a nice study/library with all my office stuff but nice armchairs and sofa to use when I wanted to read away from the desk or to have a cup of coffee with my friends. I am enjoying that space much more than before.

The room that was vacated when my living room became a study is now a guest bedroom.

  1. Declutter
  2. Store things using the full height of the space

Have less stuff.

Savagely declutter anything which has no use - old clothes, ornaments, anything which just sits and does nothing and stuff you avoid using or wearing - harden your heart and chuck if.

Charity shop it, dump it or give it away.
