P&O Ferries - will you use them?

I'm just wondering if anyone is planning to make future bookings with P&O after their appalling treatment of their employees? I can understand it if you booked months back and it would be highly inconvenient to change - but if there was an alternative route/carrier, would you book with P&O in the future? If you would, do you feel OK with that?

Nope.

CormoranStrike · 09/04/2022 21:21

Nope.

If there was a big change in senior management I might go back. But not at the moment.

ArtfulScreamer · 09/04/2022 21:36

Absolutely not they've treated their employees appallingly and the business is in trouble so I'd worry about the safety of my booking.

No, never. They’ve treated their employees appallingly and I would also have safety concerns due to the poorly trained and underpaid staff they now have running the ships.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 09/04/2022 21:45

No, as the way they treated the staff was disgusting.
I'd definitely look for alternative routes and destinations that didn't involve them.

HandlebarLadyTash · 09/04/2022 21:48

No, it's disgusting the way they treat their employees. We need people to take home money they can live off, sick pay, & pension.

Mysterian · 09/04/2022 21:50

No, but I don't think that'll be an issue for much longer. They were losing tons of money before all this happened. They'll collapse in a few weeks.

carefullycourageous · 09/04/2022 21:52

No, not unless there is a clear out at the top.

Norgie · 09/04/2022 21:53

I've always avoided them where possible, using DFDS instead.

WWRGD · 09/04/2022 21:54

Nope

ChoiceMummy · 09/04/2022 21:54

I think that my principled self says no. But the reality is that if they are more competitively priced or have better availability then I like the majority, I imagine, would use them.

BIWI · 09/04/2022 21:55

Definitely not. Even if they were 'competitively priced' as @ChoiceMummy says, that would only be because they're undercutting everyone else by not paying their staff fairly.

Scum.

This.

We would normally use them once or twice a year. Already looking at other routes or flying as I disagree with how they’ve managed this and I wouldn’t feel safe with new people who have little experience on their ferries.

AchillesPoirot · 09/04/2022 21:58

Never again. It unless the whole top brass is booted out.

LynetteScavo · 09/04/2022 21:59

Atm I'm not planning on going on any ferry, but if I were, and there was an alternative company I would happily pay another company slightly more.

Neverreturntoathread · 09/04/2022 22:05

I’ll buy whatever ticket is cheapest for my journey. And so will everybody else.

Just like we all buy cheap plastic tat from China made by beaten-up political prisoners, and wear clothes made by children in Indian sweatshops…

☹️ Don’t wanna be a downer but what is point of singling out P&O? If you wanna spend your money ethically start with Russian petrol and Chinese plastic.

AchillesPoirot · 09/04/2022 22:08

I’m singling out P&O because I know someone they sacked.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 09/04/2022 22:11

Sorry I've not read the thread, but I feel like this is P&O marketing team looking for information.

To answer your question, no I definitely wouldn't use them ever again. Just like all the businesses that treated there staff like rubbish in March 2020 and during the years after.

Who's to say we don't/can't do all of that?!

I'd single PO out (as well as other ethical behaviours) because of the way they treat their staff.

Cantonet · 09/04/2022 22:32

I think they've had their Ratner moment and are now going to sink ( pardon my pun).

HarrietSchulenberg · 09/04/2022 22:36

No, not even if it means paying more for a different service.

LegallyBlende · 09/04/2022 22:38

Stopped sailing with them years ago. It was Stena or P&O on the route we used to take. Stena were slightly more expensive but faster crossing and the boat is 100 times cleaner and nicer.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2022 22:43

I'm looking at holidays right now and I'm looking for ethical businesses, family owned hotels and I don't think that I'm big a weirdo for doing it. I like to spread the travel money to local stuff. One of the many reasons I'm not a big-chain-all-inclusive person.

And no P&O won't be getting any money from me.

ErinAoife · 09/04/2022 22:54

Irish ferries if I recalled w did the same to their employees, got rid of them and hire cheap labours a few years back to replace them. They are still n business which make me think that if p&o price are competitive people will on fact book them and forget about the appealing behavior of the company

And if you look at prices they undercut p and o and dfds by £30 on the average day trip and sometimes more on longer trips.

I doubt that many people even know their history nor feel so principled to not use otherwise they'd be out of business!
