Present or money for DC's 12yo school friend?

I'd rather give a present (and I've got a couple of good ideas), but DS would quite like to give money.

I suppose I feel like a present shows thought, and I'm reasonably confident that they'd like what I'd choose. I worry that they'd end up with a lot of money if everyone gives them money. I know I prefer it when DS receives a range of gifts, including things I wouldn't have thought of (but that he actually really likes), and also a small amount of money.

'Birthday' is the critical word that I missed out in my OP 😄.

Would a voucher be a compromise? How well does he know her to pick something she’d like?

Definitely money at that age.

I don't think DS would really know what to choose. Oh, I hadn't thought of a voucher.

They all give money from 12 onwards ime.

My son was recently chuffed to bits with an Amazon voucher. I don't do business with Amazon but my 12 year old does!
Failing that cash.

OK, how much is the right amount? £10 / £15?

We give money from that age as then they can add it to savings or buy something they actually want. We give £10 for a school friend £20 for a close friend.

fruitpastille · 09/04/2022 22:44

£10 round here.

Thanks everyone, I'm leaning towards giving money now 🙂. I'll have a chat with DH about it later.
