Do you have a nice every day tablecloth?

I need one to cover my 6 seater rectangular table that we use all the time. My table is pretty worn and I will be attempting to clean it up and varnish or paint it but in the meantime, I need a tablecloth that I can just throw in the washing machine. Any recommendations please?

I buy mine from B&M. They wash lovely and don't need ironing.

We have an oilskin tablecloth that we just wipe down every evening after dinner. Try here www.simplytablecloths.co.uk/product-category/oilcloth-tablecloth/

I didn't think anyone still used tablecloths these days! Confused

We have an ikea table that I didn’t bother to varnish and it’s always had a table protector then a tablecloth. I have about 6, all scavenged from remnants of nice fabrics or old curtains or similar. Very easy to do if you have a sewing machine and a nice way to change things up.

I always use tablecloths 😁.

I bought nice material by the meter from IKEA and use that. Our table is a large 6 seater and the cost of a tablecloth was very expensive.

Yes, grey material one with leaf print from Wilko. Throw in wash every few days.

We have lovely linen ones from IKEA.

I usually get a wipe clean one from asda for about six quid. I get a new one every few months when I can't get a stain off from whatever arts and crafts the kids have been doing.

ConfusedByDesign · 09/04/2022 15:03

Thanks for the ideas. I was in Ikea a few weeks ago and didn’t see any.

I’ve done that with some from Sainsbury but to me, it’s such a waste. I felt guilty throwing out my second one and wished I could just wash it.

I have a few of the wipeable ones from Next. They usually have a good choice of plain and patterned ones, and they're more like fabric than plastic if that makes sense.

dropoutdoreen · 09/04/2022 15:17

@TwinklyBranch

They do if their table is shit and they cant afford to buy a new one Confused

I have a couple from Wilco.

fruitpastille · 09/04/2022 15:21

I know, I do feel a bit bad about it but I often use off cuts from the old one for messy stuff for quite a while. And we are pretty good environmentally in other ways.

ItsSnowJokes · 09/04/2022 15:23

Oilskin tablecloth so I can wipe it clean after food, playdoh, painting etc........ I have a nicer Xmas one but its always the oilskin one on normally.

I buy Indian block print tablecloths from a local shop. I have a few now and they look beautiful and make dinner feel special. Used to buy the wipe clean ones but they stained badly. My fabric ones wash well and the vibrant patterns are forgiving on the off stain.

Mine are like these but from a local shop that import fair trade from India. www.etsy.com/uk/search?q=indian+tablecloth+green

If you have a piece of fabric 50cm+ larger than your tabletop’s length and width, you can whip up a tablecloth in about 20 minutes using this method and straight machine stitching.
It turns out neat, non fraying and sturdy with minimal ironing.
An ideal way to repurpose old sheets etc.

Dunelm or Asda, both sell wipe clean or cloth ones, my Asda cloth one is very heavy cotton almost feels like linen, washes lovely but a pain to iron. Next sells them as well.
