What did your teen do to celebrate their 16th? What did you do all those years ago?

My parents quite often had parties, so we had a big party at home for mine. It wasn't all my friends though - more family friends and their kids, some of whom were my friends too. It was fun. I had a beer or two and danced to dad-rock in our living room until the early hours. I think I went out in the town with my friends the night before.

PFB is turning 16 in a couple of months time. She says she doesn't want to do anything, but she does seem slightly interested when I suggest things, like maybe a meal out with her group of friends. What did your teen do?

I don’t remember what I did for mine a million years ago….
Ds1 had a joint party a mine with his best friend. 20 teens in my house - music, dancing, pizzas and doughnuts……there was alcohol but everyone seemed pretty sensible. Oh and we had a table tennis table up and they played beer pong - probably not that sensible actually!! We stayed upstairs out of the way but were there if we were needed.

I went water skiing in Florida. We were on a family holiday at the time. My birthday falls in school holidays.
I know a few 16 year olds who have gone out for meals with friends.

Nothing unfortunately as it was during lockdown!

We made up for it for her 17th by doing a big family BBQ (she is a summer baby) with a few close friends invited, set up a hot tub and had a great afternoon!

Now 18th is coming up and I have suggested a proper party, function room type event but she's just wanting the garden party again but with alcohol this time 😂

Just a normal birthday for DD as she didn't want to do anything special. It's her 30th soon and the same thing applies, no fuss, her choice. My birthday is December 25th so mine never got "celebrated" either.

my 16 th was just a normal day as it was mid week and had school, don't recall doing anything 'special' at the following weekend.
At the time being 16 meant you could legally have sex and buy cigarettes, those that wanted to were doing both before 16!
