Childhood activity I have restarted again since having a baby. I bloody love it. It makes me so happy to see them quacking.

Excited to see the first ducklings soon!

Yes. Love it so much we’ve got some ducks to go with our chickens! They are adorable. Too tricky to raise ducklings ourselves as our ducks get bored and wander away from their nests after a couple of days, but we do get little fluffy chicks every year.

Creamarrancardi · 08/04/2022 20:46

Oh what sort? (Photo? Or too cheeky?)

Friends from last year!

I think I’ve added an extra photo by accident but never mind, the duck one is obvious!

Me! In fact any farm animal fills me with joy. I drag my kids to see goats, ducks, chickens, cows, pigs and horses on a regular basis. I'll be gutted when they're too old for it.

Greydog · 08/04/2022 20:49

Yes! And one of my favourite poems is Ducks by F W Harvey - first lines -From troubles of the world
I turn to ducks,
Beautiful comical things
Sleeping or curled

Creamarrancardi · 08/04/2022 20:51

I have loved taking DS to farms. His first farm experience he slept all the way round but I enjoyed feeding lambs and calves!

Anyone else getting this ad with the duck jumper? Grin we have it, it's great!

My toddler is obsessed with ducks. Duck was his first word and every single day as soon as he wakes up he asks to go and see the ducks 🦆

OhRiRi · 08/04/2022 20:55

Oops this ad!

I love em. Started doing it in lockdown.
Ducks and any other birds I saw. Now I carry birdseed around with me most days.

I'm like fucking Snow White really.

Creamarrancardi · 08/04/2022 20:58

I love that duck jumper!

Here is DS in a duck jumper too. (Hope only
One is added now.)

Here’s my little Orpington chick who had totally splayed legs when born and couldn’t walk at all. A little vet wrap split and now he a glorious gorgeous cockerel. He’s so tame he sits on my wellies and chirps at me.

Generally get excited by animals. Our bunny is lovely. Saw 7 different lots of deer on the way home yesterday.

Creamarrancardi · 08/04/2022 21:03

What a gorgeous chick!

Our ducks in their “avian lockdown pond” - they usually play in the stream in the field behind us and come home for food and bed so they’re not a fan of the current or previous lockdowns!

These is me catching those cheeky ducks going back into their lockdown enclosure at bedtime after finding a way out earlier…

Creamarrancardi · 08/04/2022 21:13

They are gorgeous!

Our call ducks are related to mallards just slightly smaller but for some reason they don’t lay many eggs really and it’s hard to get ducklings as they often don’t sit on the eggs for long enough (that clutch of ducklings in your photo are so adorable - I would love some!) friends who hatch them usually use an incubator or pop them under one of their hens to hatch them. Clearly the wild duck versions have no issues.

sophienelisse · 08/04/2022 21:22

We only had geese by my old home.

Ducks here though.

Geese were tame and lovely whilst the food was coming and would eat out of your hand but as soon as it was finished would hiss at us!

AnyCakeButBattenburg · 08/04/2022 21:27

Me too. There's a lovely park near to me, with ducks, geese, and swans. I often go for a walk around and always buy birdseed from the cafe there. I love to see them all hurry across the pond to come and get it.

Idiotintraining · 08/04/2022 23:27

Yes I take my sons to feed them at the local park. Never bread though always food from the park shop of pellets or seeds. Costs 50p but keeps the kids happy

XenoBitch · 08/04/2022 23:31

I stayed at a holiday park once that had all the cabins around a big pond. In the morning, about 40 ducks descended on the decking outside the front door.
I love feeding and interacting with any wildlife, but the sheer volume and manner of these ducks was threatening.

Arucanafeather · 08/04/2022 23:32

Love the duck jumper! I’ve just treated myself to some of the Emma Bridgwater spring chicken range

Neverreturntoathread · 09/04/2022 00:06

Love it! Just nice how happy they get.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 09/04/2022 00:15

We have a Duck food pellet subscription for the canal & loch ducks Grin
(& bird seed - my children know that to be allowed to pick the brambles/raspberries/blaeberries they have to feed the birds their "berry tax")

Tufted ducks are my favourite

dalmatianmad · 09/04/2022 00:19

Oh my, I've found my people. 1 of my favourite things is going to local park to feed the ducks. My family think I'm a sad bastard and my colleagues think I'm bonkers. I often take the old bread from the ward kitchen and feed them after a nightshirt. It helps me unwind.
I've been this afternoon. Was in my element.
