Isn't it the law?...

That when you move into a property the existing energy supplier are obliged to continue supply, unless you choose to switch? My cousin has bought a place and rang around a few suppliers, none of whom will take him on, not taking on new customers as can't be competitive. He last owned a priesthood 2 years ago and since then has lived with a relative, so no existing contract.

I'm sure when I bought my house the energy supplier in place said they were obliged to continue to provide service if needed?

Thank you

From last December

An Ofgem spokesperson says suppliers are obliged to take on customers when requested: “We’ve been clear that suppliers must comply with licence conditions despite the challenging market situation.

“Suppliers must offer to supply a domestic household once approached by a customer, including where this necessitates the installation of a meter to enable supply. If supplier actions leave consumers at risk of going off supply, and where we have evidence that this is the case, we will take action.”

Is it not connected at the moment? When I've moved into a place it's always had gas/electric working, and in a pinch I just waited till a bill "to the occupier" arrived to figure out which supplier I needed to deal with
