Help - anyone live in Cyprus?

How understanding are they about special needs, autism etc?

We are due to go on holiday to Cyprus on Monday. Two of my dds are unvaccinated and one cannot cope with swab covid tests. I have arranged saliva tests for pre-departure but then found out they have to be re-tested on arrival.

Phoned Cyprus travel department and found out the PCR tests are nasal (not throat) but they are administered by a staff member rather than the person doing it themselves.

Youngest dd is on autistic spectrum, other might be too but not diagnosed and finds nasal swabs very difficult. I'm hoping they might allow her to do it herself but if not, then what?

Where you live? This is from gov website to enter Cyprus

Children aged 11 and under are exempted from the testing requirement. Children aged 12 and over who have not completed a full vaccination programme need to follow the guidance for unvaccinated adults.

Alloftheboys · 09/04/2022 07:04

We went to Cyprus and the kids (under 12) didn’t need any tests. Both adults are triple vaxed and had to fill out a form pre departure.

Sorry should have said they are both over 12 so will need testing ☹️

We went to Cyprus in October and dd had only had one jab so was tested at the airport by staff .we were not allowed into the terminal until she was tested then just headed in to collect bags with the paperwork they gave us.

We were there with her and I'm sure if needed you could swab them yourself if that helps.

It was incredibly well organised and straightforward but non negotiable.

They text dd the results the next morning and we had to show them at reception at the hotel and it was noted on our booking.

spagbog5 · 09/04/2022 16:05

Sorry just saw you want them to do them themselves.
I'm sure they would have let dd (16) do hers as long as they oversaw it .
It really was very non stressful and quick

My sister flew into day. She is double vaccinated and had her booster. She had to have a test yet her friend on an earlier flight didn't?

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/04/2022 17:41

Thank you @spagbog5 it was nose only right?

@Charlavail that’s strange, the rules say airport testing is only done on unvaccinated 12+.

What happens if you’re then positive? Sent home and no holiday obviously but does insurance cover you and give you a refund? Or is holiday just postponed and the expectation is to book again? I really don’t know whether to book a holiday or not at the moment. Would hate to take excited kids to the airport and then be sent home again.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/04/2022 18:12

@Springandsummerarecoming I don’t know about other countries but Cyprus are stopping airport testing on 18th April.

Ooh really? That sounds promising then and we love Cyprus! Thank you.

It isn’t that obvious.

If you have rented a house or apartment, or want to rent one specially, you can isolate there. If not, you are taken to a government isolation hotel until you test negative. All expenses paid.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 09/04/2022 18:38

Hang on. Has it changed recently ? I changed my holiday from Cyprus because on the entry requirements it was stating children who arrive in Cyprus before their 6th birthday are exempt from testing. Vaccinated 6+ were also exempt.
Meaning my 7 year old would have had to have done a pcr before departure and on arrival, and also a test in resort on day 8 of the holiday!

etulosba · 09/04/2022 19:14

Yes, the testing requirements are going completely from the 18th.

That isn’t to say that they won’t be brought back again at some stage. We have been to Cyprus twice since covid and the hoops weren’t too onerous to jump through.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 09/04/2022 21:02

@etulosba such a shame as I love Cyprus and was so excited to go back but my ds is autistic and all those tests wouldn't have been fair on him

I live in Cyprus, this was the news this week:

cyprus-mail.com/2022/04/07/coronavirus-no-more-mask-outdoors-flight-pass-scrapped/

Re testing on arrival, they are not testing every flight, only random ones.

Re testing on arrival, they are not testing every flight, only random ones

This is good news, maybe we'll be lucky.

Update - got off the plane to be greeted by blue uniformed officials doing tests, both my DDs started to panic ☹️ We explained they were both nervous, they eventually called over a female member of staff and dd1 managed to have her test. It was nose and mouth but the mouth bit seemed to be inside the cheek rather than back of the throat. She then persuaded younger sister it wasn’t too bad who then had hers too. Such a relief!

I know it sounds silly but it’s really bad for some people. I was so pleased when dd1 told me the build up was far worse than the actual thing.

We had a great holiday, coming home today.
