Any dentists or anyone who can recommend something to make a tooth white for a day?

I'm getting married soon and I'm worried about my wedding photos, I never smile with my teeth because of my grey tooth and masks have been my best friend, I'm so self conscious of it if I ever find myself talking excitingly about something and forget to talk in a way that hides it I end up mortified and withdrawing. I don't want this on my wedding day, I want to smile!

I had a root canal on it years and years and years ago. It turned grey many years after! I have enquired about what I can do and they said a crown isn't ideal as it's a canine and takes a lot of impact. I have learnt to hide it as best as I can, so I don't need a lifelong solution (as nice as that would be) but I would love something so that I can smile on my wedding day. Even if it needs to be reapplied throughout the day that is fine. There are so many things online I don't want to rack up loads trying stuff, wondered if anyone has tried anything successful?

Hi I totally feel your pain, I had a tooth that had grey at the top and it looked dreadful ( to me). I bought a whitening pen ( think it’s Colgate) which is fine if it matches the whiteness of your other teeth, otherwise it looks like you’ve put tippex on your tooth.
I don’t think it looks that bad ( I know you’ll disagree) and in the grand scheme of things, on the day, no one will notice. But I totally get that you want to feel more confident.
I can’t suggest anything else, hopefully someone else can. Good luck tho, 😊

What about some composite bonding? I had it on my 6 front teeth after I developed black triangles from receding gums and it transformed my teeth. Wasn’t horrendously expensive either, no more than £100 a tooth and that was with a private dentist.
You have lovely teeth btw! But don’t let this affect your confidence if there is an easy solution.
Good luck x

I think your teeth are fine but if you are worried, you can always ask your photographer to edit any photos of you smiling to make your teeth whiter.

I did look at whitening pens but some said they were a gel that gradually whitens and I want one that will more draw a colour on? Which one did you use? @Mairyhinge

I was told crowns, composite bonding etc won't hold up on a canine? I will look into it again though

And good idea about editing, I don't want to feel insecure on the day in myself so between that and a pen, if I can find one that works, hopefully I'll be ok...

I'm a dentist.
Have you discussed internal and /or bleaching with your dentist ?

Wotrewelookinat · 08/04/2022 18:26

I have a veneer on one of my canines which was stained when it erupted … I’m not a dentist, but would this be a possible solution?

itsasmallworldafterall · 08/04/2022 18:34

You can definitely crown a canine, it could be metal only on the inside if your bite is heavy there.

caecilius1 · 08/04/2022 18:38

You can definitely crown a canine in theory but you should only crown upper canines as a very last resort. What your dentist has said re crowning is correct OP.

Composite bonding wouldn’t be predictably durable on a canine but if you had it done just before the wedding and were careful it would disguise it for the day and then if it fractured off in the future you wouldn’t have damaged the tooth as it’s just bonded on. I would agree internal/external bleaching should also help. Speak to your dentist and I’m sure you can come up with a plan.

Carrotten · 08/04/2022 19:06

You can go with internal bleaching. Combined with some external should bring it up

You can crown a canine but it's not ideal and I wouldn't do it unless necessary. You could perhaps do a no prep veneer or composite for the day with the caveat that it won't last, but looking at your bite in that photo I certainly don't think any long term crown/veneer/composite is ideal. I wouldn't want to do veneer prep because it would likely debond and then your left with a prepped tooth, but no prep veneers can be bulky, and I'm not a fan of composite veneers either tbh

summerdayss · 08/04/2022 19:20

I know this isn't what you asked but I've had internal bleaching on one of my teeth because of a root canal and it's been fab! Is that an option?

caecilius1 · 08/04/2022 22:00

I should also add that as well as being a dentist, I have actually had RCT on upper anterior tooth (trauma) and have had internal + external bleaching on it as it became quite discoloured.
It worked really well and is definitely the least invasive option.
