What is it's country of origin?

So why has it never occurred to me to buy it? Since as I chuck beef in the freezer till I need it anyway. It it seriously exactly the same? Why is it half the price?

Because it’s not got the same sell by deadline it can be transported and packaged more economically. Fresh is also perceived as better so commands a higher price.

Fair warning though, I’ve never tried a frozen mince which wasn’t grim

@VyeBrator

I wonder this about frozen lamb?
The UK has imported frozen New Zealand lamb for decades. Nothing wrong with it at all.
VyeBrator · 07/04/2022 23:50

@chisanunian I guess I'm just wondering if there's any difference though between frozen and fresh, when it comes to taste/texture?

Like @FelicityBeedle I find frozen mince a bit grim, although if I buy fresh and then end up freezing it, I don't as the texture remains the same.

frostedfruits · 07/04/2022 23:53

@Scrowy

What is it's country of origin?
I don't know I havent bought it yet. I always buy British though.

I've tried frozen mince, it all went a bit mushy and tasteless when cooked. When you freeze your own from fresh it doesn't do that so god knows how they manage to make it so bad

That's what I mean. Any frozen mince I've bought, the bits are all separate rather than in a lump which seems to affect the texture. I guess it's for convenience so you can tip out the correct amount.

Having said that, this has inspired me to buy a frozen leg of lamb next week as I've no idea why I haven't tried it before Grin

chisanunian · 08/04/2022 14:49

@VyeBrator I've never noticed the difference between fresh and frozen lamb, but then I tend to cook it well done, so no idea whether it is different for people who like it undercooked less well done.

Nothing wrong with frozen meat per se - as you say you buy fresh meat and freeze it. Surely the cheapness is down to the quality of the meat in the 1st place.
We have a local farm shop which freezes meat coming up to it's use by date. They discount it by 20%. Great quality meat at more affordable prices. Would I buy a frozen joint from a supermarket - hell no! But if you usually buy supermarket meat then I'm sure you won't notice the difference.

TheFlis12345 · 08/04/2022 15:18

Frozen mince is usually rank, I have no idea what they do to it as if you buy if fresh and freeze at home, it doesn’t come out like the stuff you buy frozen.

I had a frozen steak last week and it was fantastic!
