Does anyone recognise this poem? Grief grows old possibly by Patience Strong

My mother has recently died and my Dad wants to read a poem at the funeral which I'm struggling to find.

He says it's called Grief Grows Old and is possibly by Patience Strong but I've googled and googled and can't find it.

So I was wondering whether the Mumsnet Hive Mind had any ideas?

Thanks

Never heard of it.

But there was a song called Grief Never Grows Old, written by Mike Read as a tsunami relief thing. It was about a month after the Boxing Day tsunami, so would have been released late January 2005. Is that it?

Thanks. No I don't think so. Apparently my mum had the poem typed and in a frame in the 1960's. Her Dad died in 1967 and I think perhaps she read it at his funeral.

This was all before I was born so I'm only going on my Dad's very sparse memory.

The awakening?

Useranon1 · 07/04/2022 19:12

It was possibly a poem from the Tapestries of Time, one of her collections

dammit88 · 07/04/2022 19:59

Can he remember any other details about it? any words at all?

dammit88 · 07/04/2022 19:59

And I should have said, im sorry for your loss x

Mia400000 · 08/04/2022 22:01

Definitely not the awakening. I showed it to him today and he said no.

I'll see if I can find a copy and have a look.

This one?

Dip your pen in gold

Dip your pen in gold
before you grow too old
and forget that you were bold
before you learned to fold.

Dip your pen in gold
before you grow too old
and ignore those who guld
the unwary.

Oh, yes, dip your pen in gold
before you grow too old
before you grow too old
before you, indeed, grow too old.

elidelochanthefirst · 08/04/2022 22:56

I'm sorry for your loss.

Could it be this?

The Loom Of Destiny

The light goes out of life for us
The world turns dark and drear
When God calls unto Himself
The ones we hold most dear

His ways we cannot understand
Because we cannot see
The pattern He is weaving
On the loom of destiny

But God is good and our grief grows old
Time plays its gentle part
Laying healing hands upon
The red wounds of the heart

The secret scars grow fainter
With the passing years
And faith returns
As joy comes back
To wipe away the tears

Two options with the words "grief grows old"
I'm sorry for the loss of your mum Flowers

God is good and grief grows old,
Time plays its gentle part
Laying healing hands upon the red wounds of the heart. The secret scars grow fainter with the passing years, Faith returns and joy comes back to wipe away the tears.
Gleams of sunlight steal in at the windows of the mind; Hope revives, the future beckons. Once again we find Life has something sweet to offer.
Grey skies turn to gold,
Memories remain, but sorrows end
And grief grows old.

No idea I’m afraid. I remembered it was read at a elderly relatives funeral by a friend from New Zealand recently and she pointed me to this.
