Buying an energy efficient fridge to combat energy price increases?

DH is on the phone with John Lewis trying to buy a new fridge to replace the ancient Hotpoint aquarius that we inherited from the previous owner(which still works). He claims this needs to happen now because all the energy efficient fridges are being bought up en masse due to the energy price rises. Is this a thing and would it really make such a massive difference?

We have a very old Hotpoint fridge freezer (best guess 23 years old, they're indestructable).

I'm also concerned about how much it costs to run due to age and inefficiency so I used an energy monitor and found that it costs around £10 a month to run. Admittedly I don't know if that's at pre or post April 22 prices, so it might be a bit more now. I worked out that a new decently efficient one would cost maybe £4-5 a month, so a payback time of a good few years, based on a new one costing £500.

I'm still in two minds about replacing a working appliance, partly because I'm curious as to how long it will last left to its own devices.

Well it is true to say that prices of appliances like everything are probably going to go up. There might be a delay in the specific one you want but I can't see them all being out of stock.
