I’m in France, we have the first round of the presidential elections very soon. Apparently ‘purchasing power’ is the number one issue for French voters. Despite dominating the headlines, immigration and identity are secondary for most voters.
Do you think it will be the same in the U.K.? Fuel prices are capped here, as the power companies are still majority state owned. But price rises are definitely happening and stirring up a lot of unrest.
And how on Earth will climate change, and the need to consume less, figure into this? If French voters are willing to choose Le Pen over Macron because they believe she will protect their purchasing power, how would they ever vote for anyone who promises to reduce it, for environmental reasons?
