Weird recipe pages that never give you the actual recipe 🤔

I'm just casually searching for a keto dessert and all the pages I'm clicking on have the same annoying and pointless format.

Lots of pictures of desserts.

Descriptions of the dessert and how wonderful it is.

Descriptions of the ingredients.

Other random non relevant information and ramblings such as how someone's sister ate the dessert whilst visiting their aunt one summer.

Loads of annoying pop up ads.

Scroll to the bottom and then......nothing. No ingredient list, quantities, method etc. Or if there is it's brief and you could never make anything.

Okaaay, so are these pages just to collect clicks for ad revenue, data harvesting or what? There are even options to sign up to newsletters, but why would anyone do that when the pages deliver nothing at all?

Am I missing something?

I like using cookbooks (including my folder of printed out recipes)

Because I dint want to be forever touching a screen to keep it 'alive'

@Alicetheowl

It's especially annoying when you want to cook something the same day. You've got mince and spinach that needs using up, you google mince and spinach recipes. You find one, then have to wade through loads of irrelevant information to finally find that the recipe needs cauliflower and tamarind as well, which you don't have.
There’s quite a few sites and apps now where you can plug in the ingredients you do have and it will list what to make without needing any extras, like this site: myfridgefood.com/

Unfortunately 99% of the internet is filled with terrible food so you then have to wade through some obscenely bad “recipes” for things like “cheesy mash dip sticks” and “mayonnaise tater tot casserole crumble” but it’s good for reminding you what you could do with things.

Ha ha yes. Amd then of you are lucky enough to find the actual recipe it either required a spice mix/pastry crust/filling mix etc that they made so you have to go through it all again to make the components of the other recipe.

Or

Its not a recipe at all merely open packet A pour over carton B and drizzle with packet c.

Like i wanted to cook not mix packets together

I downloaded the app Recipe Keeper.

It's easy to use once you get the hang of it. You can install a recipe, like those annoying ones that have been described here, but the Recipe Keeper cuts out all the nonsense and what you get is a picture, list of ingredients and the method.
There's different ways of putting recipes in, even if you have 'screen shot' a recipe.

I think I payed about £7 for it. Most I've ever paid for an app, but worth every penny.

Another intensely irritating thing about those blogs is thinking 'That looks as if it might be OK. I'll just check the comments' and finding half a dozen like this:

  • OMG, that looks awesome! Adding this to our rotation right now.
  • Gee, my mouth is watering just thinking about this!

But not a single comment from someone who actually made and ate it, feeding back honestly on whether it was a good recipe. Ominous.

iklboo · 07/04/2022 10:26

Oh gods yes they're so annoying. And the ones that say:

'Open a pack of yellow cake mix'

I can bake a bloody cake from scratch you know! And what's bloody yellow cake mix when it's at home?!

Or its " I made this but I didn't have any chicken so substituted a can of chicken.peas, used ketchup instead of soy sauce. I'm allergic onions so I tried it with cauliflower and I cant eat solid food so I cooked it for half the time and blended after, and it was delicious "

So you made an entirely different recipe then 🤣

Or, “this looks so good – do you think it would be as good if I made it vegan and gluten-free (on a breaded chicken recipe)?”

“Wow, I’ll make this tonight – if I use potatoes instead of rice and fry instead of boil will it be as good?”

As though the blogger will know!

@GrandmasNightgown

Thanks

Yes I understand and use a cup for say rice but things like butter are easier weighed in metric imo and I won't bother with the recipe as it's one more layer of faffSmile

If you use a PC and Chrome you could (should) install the Recipe Filter add-on: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/recipe-filter/ahlcdjbkdaegmljnnncfnhiioiadakae

@MrsTerryPratchett ·
If it doesn't have a Jump To Recipe button... bye bye.

This absolutely! If there is no jump to you scroll down past hundreds of images and it gets so boring.

I sometimes copy and paste BBC recipes and gets lots of pics of courgettes, lemons etc!

This is my fave site
Search by ingredient
Jump to recipe button at the top
