Dsis large lump under/side of right rib. Can I reassure her? Really worried :(

Hi,

Already have this running in GA, but thought I'd try here, as it's very quiet over there.

Just that really. .

Dsis recently told me about a lump she is having checked out. She asked me to feel and I was quite surprised how big it was. It's about the size of a small apricot, right next her right rib. It's quite movable and does feel a bit like a water balloon. After a bit of research, it looks like it's where the gallblader is. It could actually be her gallblader.

No other symptoms really. Occasionally feels sick after eating rich foods apparently. Full bloods done fairly recently, all came back fine. She's early 30's.

We're really close and I'm really worried. Has anyone else had anything like this?

TIA

I had similar but turned out to be a floating rib uncomfortable after a few months movement in new warehouse job

Ouch @Saltyquiche. That sounds painful. Didn't it feel like bone?

I have something like this. It was a lipoma. Completely painless. It sits on my rib and moves when touched. However she has done the right thing by going to the GP for her own peace of mind. My GP was able to diagnose it straight away but nonetheless sent me for some further testing as he knew I was worried.

Glad yours was nothing serious @ClarkWesterfeld. Annoyingly, GP appointments are still by phone, so this GP couldn't give any opinion.

Was/is yours big? Was there any discussion of removing it?

She needs to call gp ad insist on a face to face appointment (or you phone for her) lumps can't be assessed over the phone.

They called me in and this was October 2020, so still in the thick of covid: the GP shouldn't be using that as an excuse. As a PP said, they shouldn't be diagnosing lumps without a face to face consultation. No, they told me it was nothing to worry about and no mention of removal, so I've forgotten about it! Sometimes if I'm moisturising I feel it, but otherwise it causes me no hassle.

My husband had a lipoma there, he had it removed as it was causing pain and it was attached to his rib. He has a scar about an inch and a half long

@Tulip1985, she's already being referred for a scan I believe. If lipomas are usually identified quite easily on examination, it would obviously have been nice to have taken the edge off the worry in the lead up to the scan.
