Iceland?

bonfireheart · 06/04/2022 17:02

Cos I had too much time on my hands...I went on each supermarket website with my shopping list and added up the prices... Tesco cheapest, then Asda, then Sainsburys and Morrisons most expensive.

Asda

Varies depending on your shop. I find Morrisons is best

That's surprising. Though I've just had an Asda delivery and was surprised at so many price rises since I last ordered a few weeks ago.
fairylightsandwaxmelts · 06/04/2022 17:28

It depends on what you're buying and whether it's branded or supermarket own.

I find Tesco to be the best overall, in terms of value, number of substitutions and punctuality.

BlancmanegeBunny · 06/04/2022 17:31

The cheapest for my shopping might not be the cheapest for yours. The only way you can be sure is to do an online shop and compare the total costs.

SniffMyQuiffyHair · 06/04/2022 17:43

I use waitrose and Iceland, both really good value IMO

Dodie66 · 06/04/2022 17:51

Tesco and if you do delivery saver which is only £6 a month for as many deliveries as you want you save money

Lightning020 · 06/04/2022 17:53

Weekly delivery for a year with Asda. £6. 12.5p weekly you really cannot complain!

I thought waitrose was expensive? I have never shopped there though but I thought it was one of the more expensive places to shop

I'm surprised Sainsburys isn't the most expensive I do not go in often and if I do it's just occasionally. Everything is so expensive there's hardly any offers.. things like their ready meals are more than M&S!

londonmummy1966 · 06/04/2022 18:31

Waitrose essentials range is not noticeably more expensive than the other UK supermarkets (ie not LIDL ALDI) and the quality is good.

BookHermitBlack · 06/04/2022 18:42

I use tesco midweek saver (not sure if you can still get this one). Overall I have found reliability, substitutes and prices to be best overall. I tryed morrisons, asda, sainsburys and ocado as well. I can do a weeks shop for 2 adult 2teens (with gluten free food for 1) with strict meal planning for £40-45. That's lots of batch cooking, own brand products and planning every meal.

H1978 · 06/04/2022 19:22

Asda in my opinion but I prefer tesco in my area because there’s more choice of products.

SniffMyQuiffyHair · 06/04/2022 19:27

I know, it's surprising isn't it @Cookiecrumble22, I find sainsburys expensive

Hohumfeelingglum · 06/04/2022 19:28

Tesco, and use £16 of clubcard points each 6 months to get free delivery saver

I usually shop in Sainsbury's, but have done the last few weeks in Waitrose out of necessity. It's been a busy few weeks and it was the only supermarket visit I could shoehorn in en route to something else. I have been surprised that it has actually cost me less overall than my usual Sainsbury's shop each time. There are definitely some branded products that are pricier in Waitrose (eg Lurpak spreadable), but their own brand must be cheaper if the grand total is less (we don't buy many brands though TBH). The quality is definitely better from Waitrose too.

OP, it is worth checking out Iceland. Their threshold for free delivery is low, they have good offers, and the frozen veg and fish fillets are great. I get a delivery from them every few months to restock the freezer.

Another one who is surprised by that.

I always find Tesco to be quite expensive and Morrisons generally on a par with Asda as the cheapest.

There's a few comparison websites such as trolley.co.uk. I don't know if you can compare a whole list, or just individual items.
