My resolve is weak. It's week two of diet ( we'll really only day 10) and the post school run biscuits are calling me. It was a bad habit. I NEED to loose weight my BMI makes me in the overweight category, so it's not just vanity, but speaking of vanity I look about 5 month pregnant my tummy is so chunky. Help

I agree on the Dc not needing biscuits, but my Mum was very controlling over food. Didn't let us have things like biscuits that were saved for grown ups. And very controlling over our diets and activities, which didn't work out well as we were chubby DC, prob more to lack of being able to leave the house. Once I was old enough to decide what I ate, I lost weight and have been generally slim since but it's slipped a lot. And I don't want to be my mum by banning everything. So it's tricky. However I have not cracked although had a breadstick blow out and it's nearly as bad !

Having never dieted I've finally joined slimming world with a friend, going to a group, not online. It's that external accountability that's working for me. It's like a game, with max number of points a day and I don't want to waste them on a couple of biscuits. Not for everyone I'm sure.

2 tips :

1 come over to the "LOSE IT" threads

https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/4518526-LOSE-IT-April-2022

2 I suspect you're trying to simply cut out "bad" foods and not replacing them with anything - that's a mistake you'll get hungry and resort to old habits.

You need to replace what you're omitting with something of a similar flavour profile

So if it's sweet something sweet (cereal bars, fruit, yogurt, lower cal biscuits depending on your preference and fewer of them IF you have the willpower - which is HARD especially at the start)

If it's salty (crisps for me are a particular weakness) then something lower cal but also salty (popcorn, I also like carrot batons which I pop in a wee food bag and season with garlic grinder or paprika or black pepper or just salt - then hold the bag closed and shake - like salt and shake crisps except veggies! Also works with celery, peppers, cucumber etc and very tasty, lower cal "crisps" type snacks I'm partial to Twiglets and frazzles myself)

If it's spicy then something lower cal but still with a lot of spice, (the aforementioned seasoned veggies with some chilli flakes or with a spicy dip like a salsa or lime chilli type thing, pickled chillies, cauliflower rice spiced up)

There's a theory that we eat the same VOLUME of food according to our height but that those of us who are heavier make that volume up with more calorie dense foods

That perhaps sounds more complicated than it is - it's easier to eat 300 cals worth of chocolate than 300 cals of lettuce! The lettuce is less dense calorie wise so you'll feel full eating a lot of lettuce but be consuming fewer cals than with the choc.

I'm not professing to be an expert I've a long way to go myself just sharing some stuff that has helped me in the past I lost a couple stone with ww some years back still have around 4 stone to lose. With the support of the above mentioned thread (which has "members" who have reached and maintained a healthy weight) last year I managed to lose 1.5 stone ish from June to December - then I had some personal issues and it went to hell BUT I didn't regain all of it and through that journey I know now what works for me. We all use different techniques and methods, the posters are lovely and kind and funny people who never judge.

Come on over
