Charging mobile phones & the energy crisis

I unintentionally fried my new mobile phone battery using it to video call and now it charges slowly. Because it's on charge for a couple of hours will it be costing me more in electric or would it be the same as if the battery hadn't been overheated? The phone can only suck up & hold the same amount of power as before.

If it’s new why don’t you take it back? It shouldn’t have done that to the battery if it’s new, surely?

You can get solar powered phone battery chargers, not hugely efficient but might be of some help.

Re: fried phone, take it back, it shouldn't get frazzled doing something standard like video calling.

Mobile phones only cost literally a few pennies per month to charge, so there's no point in doing things like charging it in the car, which is likely to cost much more in fuel than mains electricity in the house.

Mini portable solar panels are comparatively really expensive for the return, in terms of reducing your electricity bills... you won't break even on the investment, unless you need them as a back up or off-grid solution. Eg camping holidays, days at the allotment, regular power outages etc.

The phone is old, Samsung S6 but the battery was brand new, until I fried it. Blush Samsung told me not to charge it in the car as it doesn't work the same way as the correct charger & you end up damaging the battery. This was what I'd done with my original.

I never knew it was possible to fry the battery by doing video call. I do mobile video WhatsApp calls all the time- should I rethink?

I agree with pp that the amount it costs to charge a phone would be peanuts. Totally with you though on trying to cut back electric bill any way possible though!

It was whatsapp video I was using. I'm a bit pissed I've ruined a new battery. Takes ages to charge now.
