I need inspiration DC 5 & 11, I don't really fancy a beach holiday but don't think they'll enjoy getting trailed round cities.

What is your favourite family holiday?

Jungle? Iceland? Safari?

QuentininQuarantino · 04/04/2022 17:46

Efteling, found out about it from Munster and it was just wonderful, especially staying in the woodland cottages.

Followed by the castles of Bavaria and Salzburg

We had a fantastic time in Barcelona. There's a beach if you want one but lots of other stuff for both ages-sea life type centre, a marina with lots of kid activities (those bungie bouncer things), a super car display, cable car, watching all the human statues, lots of street entertainers, park Guille.

We also stayed in a hotel with a roof top pool which was very cool, there was a beautiful mall next to the hotel with lots of lovely restaurants, a funfair and one night they had fireworks. Something for everyone.

Chamonix or Zakopane
I loved going there when the kids were small. There was so much to do.
Krakow was good for kids. They loved the castle, the swimming pool and tbe salt mines!
Tallin and surrounding towns in Estonia was good. When ds1 was young he loved science museums and loved the one we went to in one of the towns.

2 joint family holidays.

  1. Cape Town with a car, lots of days out and we kept to school trip hours such as 10-3 or 4 and then had a couple of hours around the hotel pool. The food was so good and we alternated between dinner in the hotel and then out about the next night. It’s my favourite place in the world.
  2. Disney Cruise around the Med, absolutely fantastic. We visited Rome, Pompeii, leaning Tower of Pisa, Barcelona and the south of France. The ship was beautiful and there was so much to do for all ages. The adult only pool was so relaxing, lovely padded loungers, drinks served to us, excellent shows in the evening and delicious food.

Universal or Disney or both in Florida. A lot of money but plenty to do!

Justmuddlingalong · 04/04/2022 18:38

Austrian Alps.

samlovesdilys · 04/04/2022 18:39

A cruise?? Or a campsite in France, with water slides and maybe river access?? Both loved by my kids!!

SiulaGrande · 04/04/2022 18:42

Mine doesn't like going abroad so Brecon Beacons. Rivers, waterfalls, woods, fantastic caves, castles, and a day trip to Cardiff. Staying somewhere where they can walk out the door into countryside is a great change to city life.

Sorry to jump your thread OP!

Non abroad - the Peak District. Woods for exploring, rivers, farms, walking

shabbalabba · 05/04/2022 07:22

I know you said no cities but we're doing New York and Orlando,Florida this year!

Keladrythesaviour · 05/04/2022 07:28

A villa with pool or camp site in France, around the Biarritz area. That was my childhood from 3-13 pretty much which is when we started doing more city focused holidays.
The camp sites often have amazing pools, but I don't know the quality of them these days, but plenty of villas in that area often for not huge money.
It's a great location as you can do day trips to the beach, drive up into the pyranees and wander around little french towns. There will be plenty of parks etc too. You can either fly and hire a car or make the drive down (which can be an adventure in itself!)
Alternatively you could do Britanny. Weather won't be as hot but usually still warm. Hire a cottage/longhouse/villa. Stunning coast line to explore (lots of rock pools), visit some of the old castles and ww2 battlements, and if you get the ferry from Plymouth make the ferry part of the adventure.

Bavaria or Austria. Lakes, woodland, cities, castles, lots of indoor and outdoor stuff to do.

Violentbeauregarde · 05/04/2022 10:06

Netherlands- Center parcs or eurocamp, Amsterdam, duinrell, Efteling. Loads of options and loads of pancakes

TonyBlairsLover · 05/04/2022 10:56

South Korea. Dirt cheap plus it’ll tick all your boxes
