What food would you want?

Inspired by another thread.
DS party is in a few months it's a certain activity, let's say trampolining it isn't but similar in physical nature. The party is 6-7:30pm. This is for 7-8 year olds.
That's the time we have the venue for, I wasn't doing food because of logistics but but now I see this is not the norm and Children party's should have food.
Is a pre packed bag to take home with say a sandwich, crisps, fruit, yoghurt and a peace of birthday cake acceptable
Would get preferences from parents before hand, what flavours etc
Would this be okay?

Obviously I'll make sure drinks are provided at venue

I wouldn't send them home with sandwiches and crisps. A piece of cake is the normal thing.
You say you're providing drinks, couldn't you bring some sandwiches and crisps for the children to pick at when they have a drink?

KylieCharlene · 04/04/2022 14:46

I think a bag essentially containing a packed lunch to take home is a bit weird tbh.
Does the venue serve food? If so I'd order a few bowls of chips or a couple of pizzas or whatever to put out for the dc to help themselves to.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/04/2022 14:49

If they're being active from 6-7.30 they probably want food before/during don't they?

Sandwiches, crisps and maybe sausage rolls or similar plus party rings, chocolate mini rolls or something else sweet and a bit treat like (penguin biscuits etc)

Then send them home with birthday cake.

I wouldn't bother with fruit and yogurt, it will probably mostly get left.

twntho · 04/04/2022 14:53

Okay noted about packed lunch
If your child is doing a physically activity would you want them snacking during though, maybe I should do activity 6-7 and use the last 30 minutes for them to eat
I need to speak to venue re food I think.

To echo others, food before or during if its not at all possible, just tell parents that so they can eat ahead of time or make plans for after, rather than a takeaway packed luncj.

CurlsLDN · 04/04/2022 14:58

I have a 7 year old, if he had to wait until 7/7.30pm (bedtime!) to eat dinner he'd be very hungry. Even more so if doing a physical activity, which unfortunately would mean he wouldn't enjoy the activity as much.

In this case I'd recommend you just make it clear on the invites "drinks and birthday cake will be provided but please eat before the party so you have plenty of fuel ready for bouncing"

I'd have no issue with that at all

SophieSoSo · 04/04/2022 14:59

I agree, if you let people know in advance it will be fine!

twntho · 04/04/2022 15:03

Would definitely pop on invites if food wasn't being provided
I have asked the venue what people normally do regarding food for parties
If they do a food package etc
Glad I read that thread now!

My son went to a trampoline place for a party last week - they were provided pizzas , drinks and cake. I think as long as you make it clear on the invite that you will only be providing cake and drinks it's fine. Otherwise most parents would think party food like sandwiches / sausage rolls etc will be provided. If other parents are anything like me then after a party I assume my son won't need a big meal so he might just have toast or fruit/yoghurt before bed. If you let them know in advance then at least they can do a big lunch for them or make sure some dinner is ready for when they come back from the party.

NotRainingToday · 04/04/2022 15:55

I wouldn't bother with sandwiches at all, I'd probably just provide squash/water and biscuits. If it doesn't start until 6, I think the kids will have eaten before they come.
Definitely no to yoghurt, too messy.

reluctantbrit · 04/04/2022 16:09

If the party is bouncing or similar I would not provide food before or in-between, it could be a mess.

But, for this time frame I would either expect food or clearly told that there won't be anything. For this age group and time I think most parents would expect food at the end so the children would go straight to bed.

I would think that parents whose children normally eat early. will see that they get a decent snack before dropping them off.

We did a similar activity ones and ordered pizza to eat at the end plus had a birthday cake with us.

twntho · 04/04/2022 16:19

I'm definitely going to be doing food now venue have confirmed they don't supply food but I can bring it in
I can't order pizzas as my son doesn't like pizza
So it will be party food
Am thinking
6-7pm activity 7-7:30 food eating cake etc

Is there any other food outlet nearby? DD once got a McD meal, Burger King and once even a Nando’s.

There's a McDonald's, I could get happy meals
