Need a new laptop…

And am hoping for recommendations.

My previous laptop is now 12 years old, and is dying a rather rapid death. I need to buy a new one of a decent quality, and that I could play a few games on – probably SimCity or similar - and that I can practice programming with.

Every time I try and look at all the different options, it seems rather confusing. I don’t want to break the bank either - top of the range is not what’s needed here.

Has anyone bought one recently that they love and works really really well?

I recently replaced my 2006 MacBook with a new MacBook Air with no complaints.

I’ve recently replaced my HP windows laptop with a MacBook Air. It’s lush and I’m loving being able to turn it on and use it straight away - and not having to wait for a 30minute update to install Wink

I also have a new MacBook Air and love it. DD plays SIMs on hers so I assume it has whatever you need 😁

I really like my Lenovo. It’s about 3/4 years old now and runs sims fine, though it does take longer to load now than when it was shiny shiny new. It was 600ish new, so didn’t break the bank.
Whether you can program on it is well outside my sphere of knowledge I’m afraid

With respect, New MacBooks aren't exactly a reasonably priced option,

Don't know what your budget is but Argos are offering a Windows based HP laptop which has a decent amount of ram and reasonable power. The graphics are more than capable of simpler games. Priced at £429

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad with an i7 core which I love - I do a lot of analysis and some programming (mostly Python) and it handles the demands well.

I prefer having a bigger screen (15.5") for when I'm away from my desk / external monitors (trying to read scripts or spreadsheets on a tiny monitor is horrible). It also has decent battery life.

I think I paid about £500 for mine about six months ago, but you can also get the i5 core, which is slightly cheaper and should probably be capable of what you need it for.

About £500 is where I want to be really. I’ll take a look at those recommendations, thank you 😊
