Potty training when out and about

Sorry if this is a daft question but I'm interested to hear others opinions on this. So we're just beginning potty training with our 2.5 year old DD and getting to the point of short outings.
DH often has DD alone when I am at work, I'm just wondering what other dads do in the situation of young daughters needing to use the toilet in public? It's fine when there's a baby changing with toilet in but they are few and far between near us. Obviously she's far too young to go by herself but I wouldn't want her in the mens, is it okay for him to take her into the ladies?

He will need to take her in the mens.

Moodycow78 · 03/04/2022 18:25

I'm not sure why you don't want your DD in the mens with her dad, what do you think will happen? It's definitely not ok for your DH to go in the womens 🙄

MajorCarolDanvers · 03/04/2022 18:25

No it's not ok for your DH to go into the ladies.

He should take her into the gents with him.

You don't take them out until they're trained. Simple.

I put a puppy liner down on the pram just in case (and I mean just in case) - it wasn't needed.

Keep first trips out very short -and you go out just after they've had a wee, and limit fluids.

Absolutely not ok for him to take her into the ladies. Need to use disabled or the mens sorry. Where on earth would he be going where the men's toilet is so grim?!

Also 2.5yr is old enough to verbalise. My two were trained at 18months and had no accidents.

IDontDrinkTea · 03/04/2022 18:27

Not sure I understand the issue. Your DH needs to take her in the mens. Why would that not be ok?

EmergencyHydrangea · 03/04/2022 18:29

Get a collapsible potty?

Hugasauras · 03/04/2022 18:29

It's fine to take her into the men's. He'll be with her and in a cubicle.

mamatoawildflower · 03/04/2022 18:30

Okay thanks, maybe I'm just being a bit precious then. My reasoning was mainly to do with the fact mens toilets aren't very private, open urinals etc.

They go in the men's or if that's too grim to contemplate then get a travel potty.

Of course he doesn't go in the ladies'!

Bdhntbis · 03/04/2022 18:32

No he can’t do that. We have a potty with a lid that seals the contents so if DH thinks the mens toilets will be horrible he’ll use that in a baby changing area

Hugasauras · 03/04/2022 18:33

You can get travel potties with a seal. We still have in the boot for emergencies!

BlanketsBanned · 03/04/2022 18:34

He could try and find baby changing rooms or he needs to use the cubicle in the mens toilets.

Oh that would be handy, I'll have a look into one thanks

He takes her in the men’s. That’s what my DH did. Get a travel potty though. They are so useful for longer journeys.

Namechange466 · 03/04/2022 18:43

don’t worry i get it as just going through this with slightly older DD.

you can always buy a pottette which is a folding potty and toilet trainer.

or a carry case potty which you can seal up and use on the floor of the changing area and/or disabled toilet

so lots of options
